Lower price means Sonar will soon have company in the graveyard.

The difference between Sonar and Magix (and Steinberg to smaller extent now that is owned by Japanese conglomerate) is that one they have fallback network of local radio/tv/schools and government entities in the areas surrounding Bavaria who for the most part will not even consider anything else. They take care of each other and Magix has a fixed incoming revenue that if they fall under for some reason is their own damn fault.

This kind of brand loyalty exists to a certain extent everywhere in the world, and is one of the reasons that it is hard to break into the DAW business on a professional level (that word has nothing to do with - YO BRO MY DAW IS PRO, it just means contractual licenses for machines that will work everyday, broadcast / media pr outlets / advertising / small film / schools, etc...) preferences are established and it is a lot harder to get RTL or TF1 to change to the latest greatest just because they feel like it, that it is to convince hobbyists, small studio owners / medium studios or large recording studios (which are somewhat on both the professional contractual world but still considered a small buyer), etc...

Compound that in Europe especially, the government likes to buy stuff made by its own people whenever it can and will make up a reason to justify whatever price is required (good for them) and the people don't mind because they like that as well.... screw it am over it, explanations like this are a waste of time anyways, some people already get it, some never will, and some just are not even capable...

    W/E -

Anything is possible, right now seems highly improbable that Magix is about to go under. Gibson is a company known for deep and severe fuckery... not a surprise they killed off Sonar, they are probably looking for a buyer for Sonar to turn it into cash as their world famous fuckery has made them shit enough that they are at the moment in a nowhere near catastrophic but somewhat serious financial hole.

    Cheers

Magix may not go under- but Samplitude is not exactly being kept up to date, the codebase is very old and there is only a handful of users outside the market you mention.

But the biggest sign of imminent death is deep discounts on a product that has not seen any drastic improvement in years. Check their support forums to get an idea of how dead Samplitude really is.

Well, things are changing fast. Sonar ( Gibson) made a really sneaky move when they announced those lifetime updates and shortly after that they f-ed their own users.
It may seem as an act of desperation, offering such a huge discount on saimplitude or its actually a very smart move, snatching up potential users from steinberg and presonus. Steinberg did offer a 50% discount for them, though that may not have been enough.
The samplitude forum seems very active though, just checked.

Impressed how many people here bought it, respect.

Woah! I'll take advantage of this offer simply to get licenses for SoundForge and Spectral Layers. On those alone, it's a $650 saving before even throwing in Samplitude. Then they also include Vandal $200 and Independence Pro $330 in the deal for free too.

Man, someone at Magix was on crack before he went to work and created that deal while he was all high in the office

If each software have their own keys then I'll probably give my Samplitude key away to someone in need of it as I won't use it; I just want to retain SoundForge and Spectral Layers. Too deep in Ableton land already.

    Great Xmas discounted gift!!

Well @Talmi you just have to show up and things run smooth - MAGIX should hire you
It was probably a bit late when I tried to DL the skins, but the instructions weren't very clear. It was just mentioned that I had to go to birdline page and put the license number in to get the DL, with the result mentioned above. They didn't mention I have to make an acount at birdline and since I don't want to have to many acounts on so many sites, I didn't try it. But after reading Talmi's comment I did and it worked! Thank you (again and again) Talmi!

Could you or, of yourse, someone else also tell me how I get the 70GB Independence Lib for my offline PC and I think I also have to DL some instruments/fx?

By the way: I missed the coupon from the register email from magix. So if anyone is going to buy it. Check your email before purchasing the software!

To be honest, I don't know myself ;-) but for now, I DL'd the skins and I guess the rest will follow

@au38wzh first you need to install Independence, then run it in Samplitude, you must have internet access, at the first start Independence will automatically ask you to download library.
    The Library will download here:

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Independence Library

Thanks! But 'It's No Good' - I use my music PC just for music and besides I have no internet where I make music. Well, let's see what MAGIX will tell me about it.

@au38wzh I am so sorry I made a mistake, however, Independence Library is downloading somewhere else. :beg:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Independence Libraries\Independence Pro

The offer is extended until 20 December!

Btw: Been working with the SpectraLayers Pro 4.0 this morning and I´m overwhelmed by its possibilities and the simple way it is all set up. It will definitely be one of my favourites for editing in the future - no doubt!

Spectral Layers are integrated with Sound Forge Pro, both look powerful, I do not need any other audio editing tools anymore :lmao:

How do you get to Spectral Layers and Sound Forge Pro from within Samplitude (how are they integrated)?

    Thanks

First you need to open a projet. Then you go to "files" in samplitude top menu, from here "program parameter", and in there "external tool".
A menu wil open, at the top right of it you slect "insert" then sound forge and spectral layer. Voila, done.
From now on when you right click on an audio object in the vip window at the bottom of it you will see 'edit with sound forge" and "edit with spectral layer".

I do not have any concrete data to show, but I have a question: what is the marketing universe eternally possible for music software business owners? Are there so many really committed buyers, who make enough money out of music, keeping so many spinning sales gears going? Or most of the consumer market is formed by passionate amateurs, who only spend their money without a enough return to maintain their vocation to produce music, even if it is just totally addicted.

But if we are not billions of wasteful millionaires, should will be some predilection for products and rejection (and emaciation and death) of others obligatory. Or not?

There are quite a bit of business licenses out to be had. Think about every local radio station, advert agencies, tv stations, churches that produce media, etc... those relationships form the core of the business, the amateur level consumer is a bonus on the side, and there are not really that many programmers working on a DAW at any one time.

Plus usually for these type of products you make the majority of your money is the first year after an upgrade is released. Whatever you get after than is bonus money, so a heavy discount now is still profitable and if you retain those users for an upgrade to the next version it is good business.

people, people..... let tell you how it's done.
During instalation you will be asked if you want to have the main software and the additional downloads saved on your computer for future instalation. Choose yes and you"ll find them somewhere in C:/Documents/Magix Downloads....or whatever.....
I have bought my samplitude online with 149 $ and had no problemes with location, money ($¥€£)
oh, and one more thing, stop worship Reaper....it's mediocre at best regarding the audio production.....
