    I have an issue with the latest Kontakt 5.7.1. It says that the item Kontakt 5 that this shortcut refers has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. I already tried different times to reinstall it and at the beginning it works. But after a few times when I restart my PC it comes back every time. I also tried different locations, but unfortunately without succes. Right now I have it in my VST plugins folder.

    Does anyone maybe have an idea what the cause of this issue is and how I can resolve it? Any help is much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

    Probably you chose a different location than before while installing the new version.
    Delete that shortcut on your desktop, go to where you install the kontakt. It's usually C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt 5 if you are on windows. Right click on the Kontakt 5.exe and make a new shortcut for it.

    Perhaps some cleaning/optimizing soft you have accidentally deletes the shortcut. Windows itself has a cleaning maintenance tool that can delete valid shortcuts. If I recall correctly.

    Also, if you use the symlink version, you should make a symbolic link, which is kind of a shorcut on steroids.

    Just in case keep an eye at the location of the file Kontakt5.exe.

    Thank you so much for the answers! I really appreciate that!

    That could be the case indeed. I also got some older Kontakt versions in the past, like 5.6.8 and 5.7.0. I thought I had removed it fully, but apparently some files or shortcuts are still there? Altough, the only Kontakt folder that I could found by myself was in Common Files. I did then a search in my whole PC for any other Kontakt folders. Some folders came up and I have removed them. So when I installed it again I knew for sure there was nothing left this time and I made a new shortcut. So hopefully that makes sense.

    I use the symlink version indeed. And I use Cleaner sometimes. Is that worse? Right now I see that the Kontakt 5.exe is in my AppData folder. Will keep an eye at it like you suggested. But anyway is this actually a normal location for that?

    I will update it on how everything goes. Thanks again for the answers!

    @Xupito

    I think you're right about that cleaning or optimizing can delete valid shortcuts. So what I did first was making a new shortcut for it by following the suggestion from Webhead and I also changed the Kontakt shortcut to read-only. In that time I was still experiencing the same issues. So I removed it, installed it and did everything again. Since then I haven't used Cleaner anymore and everything seems to be alright right now. Altough, I didn't get this with Kontakt 5.7.0. So that's pretty strange. But yeah it looks like that Cleaner is the causer and in that case I know what I should not use for some time anymore while still having this Kontakt version. Now hopefully I can go ahead and this will not be coming back. Do you know or maybe someone else any other ideas on how I could clean my PC easily if I can't use Cleaner or cleaning/optimizing programs?

    Thanks again for now Xupito and @webhead
