Hey, I play jazz, rock, metal, hip-hop, blues, salsa, and make EDM. The only problem I see is your unwillingness to view music with an open mind, and pigeon-holing whole genres because of your preconceived views of them. Jeez, calm down man. We're all entitled to our own opinions, but trying to force them upon others is just wrong.

That's why there's music classes!!!! You're NOT a producer... you're what WE call a "wannabe" You want to be a producer but do not possess the education... so accept what you are and don't expect people who actually know about music to help you out. Music is a lifelong study... there are no shortcuts so to see you frustrated just makes me laugh!!! It's like being in another country where you don't know the language and you can't figure out howe to order food!!!!!! HA!!!!!!!!!! Hilarious...

God forbid you have to modulate to another key!! OMG!!!!!!

Wow, Im glad people and friends actually helped me when I was starting out. Funny thing is it was my family that said I was wasting my time. But they're not saying it anymore. We were all killing time staring at screens. The difference is while they were trying to get high scores on an Xbox leaderboard, I was actually creating something.

Something else we should mention... You can know all the theory in the world, but it doesn't guarantee that you can make an appealing track that people will actually enjoy. And listen to more than once, or if they can even make it all the way through the first listen. :ahem: :cough: :cough:

A lot of EDM artist make acoustic (real instruments) versions of their tracks as well...and others cover them too

    Tracklist:
    1. Hardwell ft. Amba Shepherd - Apollo (Acoustic Version)
    2. Krewella - Enjoy The Ride (Acoustic Version)
    3. Zedd ft. Foxes - Clarity (Acoustic Version)
    4. 3LAU ft. Bright Lights - How You Love Me (Acoustic Version)
    5. Hardwell ft. Matthew Koma - Dare You (Acoustic Version with Bebe Rexha)
    6. Krewella - Alive (Acoustic Version)
    7. Tritonal - Anchor & Satellite (Chantelle Truong Acoustic Cover)
    8. Skrillex - Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites (Ferro Piano Cover)
    9. deadmau5 - Strobe (Evan Duffy Piano Cover)

That skrilly cover at 21:40 is really good.

This is true. But knowing all the music theory in the world would make it far easier to make an "appealing track that people will actually enjoy".

Learning music theory involves knowing why things sound the way they do - so you can easily describe and (re)produce them at will. ('ear training' is a major component)

For getting free, obtaining liberty and breathing in the open air, I suggest for the OP to think of the piano roll as sound-trigger not note-trigger. This suggestion worth millions and is the key for your future successes. Music-theory is like religion. Just dodge anything being publicized by the music-theory missionary propagandists. You know they are like flying tomatoes.

I taught myself to play. Learn chords. Then listen to where they go. Nobody can give you a simple answer to your question.

So, according to your classification, tribal musicians, who were never exposed to western knowledge of music cannot be called musicians?
Some of them aren't able to tell pitches apart, and so they shouldn't call themselves musicians?
I'd say any self-aware being, objectively or subjectively involved in making vibrations of any sort could call itself a musician.
The rest is how rigorous the scholarly classification gets - e.g. this is music, and this is NOT music.
On subatomic level, it's all vibration regardless.

Now whether I care to like/love/hate/loathe any particular piece or style, that's all individual. and usually not correlated to theoretical or practical conformity.
Pieces by Flint Juventino Beppe, while technically flawless, are quite difficult to listen to, at least for me. On the other hand, pieces by Brunuh ville are very primitive in nature, but most of them are enjoyable.
Not to say great technically complex pieces should be replaced - but on 'music' pedestal, there's not better or worse. There just IS.

Also please avoid insults in the future, discussion-wide those add nothing of value and the repercussions are felt only by those who direct them.

Seems to me this thread has become perfect material for people studying psychology
Not the first time and probably won't be the last either.

Anyone out there still willing to help the poster with his or her question? Or has he or she already made a run for the hills?
How did we get from, help me to read chords. To edm sucks and calling people deaf?
Just saying, i've seen better threads that actually help to improve our skills.

Saw that Montgent already provided a simple solution........:like: Thanks i'll be downloading that chart aswell.

Bravo! This is how you help someone, not with the snark and arrogance I've seen in some of the comments. I'll take a kind person over a snob anytime, any day. Also, those stupid answers are only making people stay away from forums like these. Then you see those 'oh people are leaving this place, I miss X and Y blah blah blah" types of threads where, ironically, the same snobs I see here are commenting as if they were not 'that' kind of person... *vomits*

The guy who did the insulting , zorgbop, actually never came back, and OP got some pretty good answers in the end. Most of zorgbop insults were fortunately erased. You haven't read the whole thread which was buried since 6 months for good reasons.
Drama fuel drama, that's what the other topic you vomit on is about.
    But welcome anyway. :mates:
    @pine

Edit : and man I actually defended the OP, @Elisea , and what seems to be your pov.

Glad the person who was insulting is gone. As for the OP, they never replied back to any of the answers which tells me they may have felt discouraged to do it by the amount of snark and arrogance they were getting from some users.

I know there were some good answers, if you *cough cough* read carefully, you'll notice I start my post by congratulating someone who actually helped the OP and others in the same situation as the OP, he actually went further than anyone else on that thread. That's part of my point with that post, positive examples should be praised and negative examples called out.

To be fair, I think the OP never checked any of the good answers 'cause of the amount of crap he was getting for making a question. No question is dumb, dumb is not to ask them, and you shouldn't be treated as inferior because you asked a question that you genuinely were curious about. It's not like he asked a 60 character question on how to turn your computer on, is it?

That zoidberg dude was the most extreme but the were other older users making fun of the OP instead of helping.. Like that dude comparing the OP's learning process with wanting to write a novel in Russian without even speaking a word of Russian. Like, really, dude? Are you saying that you need to be (musically) literate (i.e. knowing theory) to make music? I mean, showing off technique can be interesting but I think that using a tool, be it a guitar or a computer, to bring emotion and feel to your music is the point of it. I suppose that dude isn't aware of hip hop, punk or metal history. But this guy, despite corrosive, wasn't the worst. Others, were explicitly saying that you're only a 'real' musician if you know music theory or play guitar or whatever. How is that helping to answer the OP's question? 'Cause to me it looks like you're excluding, not including. Then those same users were complaining in another recent thread about people leaving this forum, how ironic... Don't you think there's a correlation there? (not asking you, specifically, but users in general).

So, in summary, my intention with that post wasn't 'to make drama' as you put it, it was, in part, to praise Matt's answer and also to make a bridge to the topic of a recent thread on why people might feel compelled to leave this forum or, even worse, not even ask in the 1st place. Which is completely understandable, I mean.. why ask if you're going to have people making fun of you (sometimes snarky old users who just think they're being *fun* but they're actually having a negative impact in the way people think of this place... the fact that they're old users gives the impression that that is the norm and completely okay).

Maybe I didn't read the *whole* thread because some of zoidberg's comments were deleted but he was only the most obnoxious, I read enough (not only in this thread but in others too) from other users to realize that there's quite a few snobs and hazers here, most seem to be old users. Maybe that's not the case, we'll see.. but that's how it comes across to someone new here, like me, which proves exactly my point.

Thanks for the 'slightly' sarcastic welcome, coming from you, that means a lot LOL

Jokes aside, I feel like you used that post as an excuse to call me out for disliking one (1) of your posts (let's forget about the other 2 from you that I liked/agreed with in that thread, right? lol) - In all fairness, I disliked that comment because, just like @Elisea, it seemed to me like you were saying that it's okay to insult other people as long as you add a 'LOL' in the end, making it a 'ironic' post. I can't stand that, to be fair, and have a feeling that you changed your attitude from passive, even nice, to active after she called you out on your niceness towards the zoidberg creature. Not that I *have* to justify anything but yeah, that's why I disliked it... your lack of 'spine', you should've been active (some people say harsh) since the 1st moment that asshole started insulting people because they make music in 'their machines'. That's exactly what Elisea did and that's why I liked her attitude and not yours. After she called you out and you changed to a more active attitude towards the asshole, I started liking your posts, as you can verify but conveniently 'forgot' to add in your post (I suppose it's not as okay as it is to complain about someone disliking your post lol).

Also, I don't know why you included yourself in the snob group, wasn't talking about you (barely knew of your existence lol) nor did I indicate that I could be talking about you. Being passive towards assholes/bullies isn't the same as being a snob, don't know what made you think that but then again, it isn't really import for me to know why, I'm sure you know why and that's what really matters.

Honestly there is no problem man, I understand your pov, it was mostly mine too. The guy asks for advice, if you don't have anything to bring (not you you, you in general), if not move along, no need for insult. That's why I said that the other post you're talking about retaining oldschoolers, is in a way related to this thing. And since you disliked my post - not a big deal I'm used to it, but I didn't understand since it wasn 't an offencive post in anyway just clearing things with elisea - and I also participate in the thread about oldschooler, me being the one crying about gone comrades, I thought the part about snob people crying about gone persons was aiming me. My fault for misunderstanding, I guess. The part about adding drama refers to the fact that this was an acrimonious buried dead topic, and digging it up doesn't seem like the best move. I've removed that part, I don't want you to feel unwelcomed here or put on the spot.
Hope that clears things up for you. And again welcome.

Oh and old users are fine. They are the blood of the forum, when you'll need help they will the ones to respond like on this topic. You should hold judgement and wait until firing away things against veterans.

It wasn't just you "crying about gone comrades" but okay, no worries, I understand what you're saying.

    As for

It might be dead for you but it isn't for the people who haven't read it yet and, in all honesty, praising a good example and calling out the bad ones is always a good move. If, on top of that, you're able to relate it to a recent thread, even better.

    Thanks, again.

I would never generalize or criticize old users as a single group - there's the good ones and the snarky ones.. if you actually read what I wrote, you'll know which ones I'm talking about.
