Again sad news. For many of us older guys he was considered the French Elvis. His talent took France by storm (and a good part of Europe too). May he rest in peace. His contribution will not be forgotten.

Un geant, le plus grand chanteur masculin de la chanson francaise dans la francophonie nous quitte. Tristesse dans la sphere musicale.

A giant, the biggest male singer of all time in the whole french universe all corners of the world for many generations including our parents has left us today. A very sad day in the music sphere.

What a voice he has, a True singer, a true artist, a humble man, simple. Some call him "The Boss"

Merde qu'on aimait et on aimera toujours sa gueule

And today we all have something about "Johnny" - On a tous quelque chose de Johnny aujourd'hui

    Vade In Pace Johnny

  13. Hey @yabiss .. after a lifetime of being called the "French Elvis" I hoped to offset and so negating something that I dislike to no end, that which is being a unique and wonderful artist in your own right but still being continually compared to someone else, usually repeated ad nauseam by stupid, uncreative people who just follow a trend unconsciously. It was just my way of complimenting the man. It of course not even actually close to the truth and imagined anyone would realize that...guess I was wrong.

So i misunderstood you and took it on the first degree then. Apologies. :snuffy:

I agree. Elvis is not Johnny and Johnny is not Elvis. And like you i hate it when people (journalists usually) like to compare new artists by naming them "the new X" or "the new Y" like they don't exist by themselves...

  16. Thanks a ton for your reply! Apology wholeheartedly accepted. I'll try not to be such a whippersnapper, smartass in my posts to avoid miscommunication of my thoughts in the future.

Totally agree too. He was as unique as any true artist (and to be honest Hallyday was a great actor too, Elvis never was). We have to remember though, the "nick" was stuck because he was considered the man who introduced France's "majority" to rock'n'roll, and not because he was considered any kind of an Elvis impersonator or gimmick. It is cool you made it clear, so i felt i made clear my post as to what i meant.
I will leave you with a little something (different than music) i have enjoyed the recent years: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1329454/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
And to my French friends, please excuse my writing if this is wrong, i am still working on my French:
Je vous adresse mes sincères condoléances mes amies.
    Merci pour une vie d'art.
