this is all i want some clarification on:
what difference between 16 bit and 24 bit recording "Samplitude X3".
e.g. does this save memory or cpu? is it in my best interest to work in 24bit?
i know it's a bit simple but ( as seems to always be the case for me) i cannot find anything that explains this sort of thing simply ( or for boneheads)
also, is anyone running samplitude with soundforge included?). i am curious if this comes with samplitude or just the ability to work with files in samplitude...

 

addendum:

whilst i am here, i need to mention a few things which are driving me cray.
Selections. when i try to edit an automation curve i have to zoom in a long way otherwise my cursor just 'slips off' same sometimes when just selecting objects. the worse thing is a focus issue. like instead of a single click to select i havfe to make several and it's so fiddly it drives me nuts.
it's always a ashame when such a great app has aspects that almost rule out using the app as these fiddly things always get in the way. i feel like i want so much to like and get across samplitude so much, but isn't looking so good today. i spent like an hour or two this morning trying to simply draw automation on an object and on the timelins. and it was stupidly difficult. so as much as i love it. i have to force myself to use something else because .. well, goot a be productive right?
Unless someone can show me the error of my ways?
yes, that question is aimed at the other two people that purport to use this : )

16 bit saves both CPU and memory but uses a significantly lower resolution for the audio than 24 bit. 16 is CD quality, 24 is cinematic and professional audio level. Many people work at 32 bit float level, as it tolerates a signal over or under flow, which 24 bit won't. You'll need very exacting gain staging to get the best out of 24 bit. All this regardless of the DAW you use.

I've not experienced your issues with selecting under Samplitude. You could check you are using the appropriate mouse mode.

think of it in terms of television resolution. 16 bit is good, its cd quality, so it will have detail. 24 bit, however, has more "pixels", and the "picture" will look more detailed. it will be harder on your cpu but for some people, its the difference between hearing subtle changes in their mix. it's a tired arguement, and everything eventually gets mixed down to 16 bit and ends up as an mp3 anyway, but some people still like more bits when they are working so they can hear the pristine nature of the audio.

so....16 bit is a blurrier picture, but not all that blurry. 24 bits is less blurry, and 32 bit or 32 bit float will not be very blurry at all. again, speaking in terms of television resolution as a replacement for audio detail to help you understand it better. hope this helps.
