Hi @Fragment a little more info?: When do you get from what app a failure message and how does it read?

As I don't know about your PC knowledge I would even consider beginner's mistakes:

First idea would be: OK, you have an altered "hosts" file but, does it reside in the right place?
To test if you are fiddleling on the correct file, add a line like
    127.0.0.1 facebook.com
save the hosts and check if you can reach facebook. If not, your hosts is the right one.

Second idea: Is the process giving the error allowed to open the "hosts" file? If not, restart the process with right mouse and "run as administrator"

    Third idea:
Did you open the "hosts" file with the text editor and saved it to "hosts.txt" (standard for notepad) by accident. If so, you need to change it back to hosts as the file has no extension like .txt and won't be found by processes looking for "hosts" only.
If you told Windows not to show file extensions, you should change it to show them (I never unterstood why it is standard behaviour not to show them)

Fouth idea: If the last line in your "hosts" file isn't ended with a CR/LF character (carriage return/linefeed) the R2R command file adds the two lines directly behind the last line. In this case, the setup process will not recognise the two lines in the "hosts" file correctly. Just place at least one "Enter" with your texteditor just before the R2R entries. It should read something like this now:

    127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com

    127.0.0.1 www.r2rdownload.com
    127.0.0.1 www.elephantafiles.com

Thanks for the 'ideas' but none of them helped.
It's not cool from R2R to do go this way at least for me it's a hustle and I'm not able to install their latest releases ... sad

ATM my host file is this:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.

    # ::1 localhost

Your hostfile doesn't look like you applied twoheart's fourth 'idea'. Not cool.

Sorry just a copy paste mistake. I tried every tips I could found here in the forum. But still get a error message. I also disable my security software with no success.

I've was able to reach the site until I blocked it wiht my FW (Comodo). So the problem is maybe still Comodo? However I do not understand this because the installer check the host file and not the ability to reach the website, or? And my host file seems correct or? Plus, I disable my security software with no success ....

    Thanks for all you help

with your firewall disabled (shut off), you shouldn't be able to reach the website (you should get an error in your browser). If you *can* reach the site (with all your firewalls disabled), this means that the file you've edited/saved is not the HOSTS file your system is using.

I know. I meant with my FW running I was able to reach the site until I blocked it via FW. When the FW was turned off I was able to reach the site. Sorry my english is not that good.

I read in another topic that FW or antivirus can protect your host file and render editing of it useless (https://audiosex.pro/threads/host-file-etc-host.32662/#post-298287) when the FW is running, and so block any change in them. That's what seems to be happening in your situation. you probably have an option to disable that behavior somewhere in comodo.

Then the file you are editing is not the real hosts file.
Make sure the file you're editing is in windows/system32/drivers/etc/ upload_2017-12-1_11-2-28.png
Make sure the file you're saving has no extension (Notepad will add .txt by default, saving it as "hosts.txt," you don't want that).
In folder options, tell win to show system files & show extensions for known file types, and post a screen capture like the one I posted above.

Edit: and what @Talmi just said

Thanks. I altered the file again and now I can not reach the blocked sites (no matter if the FW is on or off). So it seems the hosts file is correct. However I still can not install

Have you saved the file? [IMG] (either that, or your computer's clock is way off)

its still not great to have it set to 127.0.0.1, because lets say youwant to run a server or something, most default configs use exactly this ip adress. better would be 0.0.0.0 bcs nobody uses this. but as i have tried when i add that the keygen checks the full line
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 elephantshitpage.com
i hope R2R can adress this.
so far i know for example IDA debug server uses in default exactly this adress you set the ip-adress for this pages.

^At worst, you'll land on your server's root when you try to reach one of the blocked sites.
