So you won't explain the mechanics of software companies dropping prices due to piracy?
    How so?
Does it also show that the downfall of Soviet Communism happened because I left Russia? Because after the fact = because of the fact, right?

Re. NI = My 5.7 portable working like a clock, did NI just realize all they had to do was ask? What will the world's poor do nao?
    :(
Don't R2R do it for them -- the ones who can't afford stuff & thereby aren't teh target demographic, so no loss to NI? And you bought it anyway, because righteous dudes do that, so why would NI need drop prices?
Consistency, my Good Sir -- that's all I ask

I'm not writing a scientific paper on that matter, sorry so consistency develops in the course of discussion hopefully. ;)

NI and other older software vendors (e.g. Steinberg, Apple...) will come to a point where alsmost every *interested user who is able to pay their prices* owns their product. I think (although I can't prove it), there is a big mass of interested people not able to pay the prices as they are, but if they are lower they would. Those people are using warez.
In this case (nearly saturated market) they need to do something to maintain revenue on the level they need. There may be several ways, one of them is lowering prices to enable more potential customers to buy to prevent them from using warez.

Another way may be innovation. In NI's case, they are not able to pay it out of their own pocket any longer. They accepted an investment of 50m Euro for R/D from a private equity.

Just a thought but...if I were a software developer and I was hemorrhaging money because of great teams like R2R and I had tried just about everything else to stop them...what would I do?
How about infiltrating in as far as I could get until I could pay someone enough to start producing garbage and somehow attach R2R's name to it. The guy I hire wouldn't have to be phenomenally smart or anything...just smart enough to distribute garbage and piss off the best team around. AND...when would I do it? Right before Christmas. I think everyone knows why.
Now, all that being said, I am not pointing fingers or even saying its the truth. All I am saying is that is what I would do.

Meant consistency in the most general sense -- as in a position is intrinsically consistent when it doesn't contradict itself (requires both A & not A to be true). makes conversations more fun. I was confused -- thought you were the one making "but starving children! Think of the world's starving children!" argument. My mistake.
I currently have all their product that I care for -- cracked. So I guess we no longer need R2R. Or do companies come out with new software once in awhile?
There is a big mass of people interested in Patek Philippe watches, but unable to pay the prices as they are. If the prices were lower, they would buy Patek Philippe watches (which they currently steal due to high prices). Ergo, it's in Patek Philippe's selfinterest to lower the prices, QED.

As far as your "physical goods (cars) are different" argument, you're just not thinking it through.
A car thief doesn't steal your new car from you -- new cars (bought on credit) are insured, so he's stealing from a greedy, monopolistic insurance company. The company that wouldn't even exist if not for thieves -- who'd by theft insurance if cars weren't stolen?
Thieves provide jobs to millions! Not just to greedy underwriters -- to manufacturers! Of safes, doors, burglar alarms, guns, locksmiths, police, lawyers, judges, etc., etc. Let's not forget auto manufacturers -- stolen cars need to be replaced (those ̶p̶o̶o̶r̶ ̶c̶h̶i̶l̶d̶r̶e̶n̶ Eastern Europeans who wound up with the stolen ones were never gonna buy them anyway). The auto industry needs thieves more than thieves need it (they can always steal other shit).
TL;DR: We should worship the ground thieves walk on!

    How'm I doing?

This thread was made in relation to the infestation of simlink posts on AZ and the action of a moderator there, who was closing down discussion on the subject, and of course to seek a response and find out if R2R supported them or viewed them in the same way as they do scummy (sunny) repacks.

Now we know the answer, this thread need not exist as a place for airing the same ill thought out arguments spread all over this forum.
Go ahead and lock this one up.
