With the departure of CW head Craig Anderton recently.
This is seems to be the formal end after 30Years in the biz.

Watching Gibson with over 500Mil in the red this isnt a big surprise.
    Expect more to follow!

Wow. What does that mean for Sonar? New owner on the horizon? Really hope this isnt the end of this magnificent daw, cant be...
Gibson really is doing rather poorly, sales of guitars are generally a lot lower compared to even 5-10 years ago.

If you ever asked what does "fatal confluence of circumstances" mean, then i have a story for you. I'm wearing beard since 2k8. The Reason why i'm doing this, is my instantly dying 400$ philips trimmer.

    The End, i'm afraid.

Gibson is a dead duck running without his head for some years now.

Take a look at that to understand Cakewalk's death is just a side effect of Gibson ownership :

I have heard Cockos c.e.o. is looking into buying it and transferring its engine to make Reaper a real daw.

I wont miss Cakewalk Command Centre, that's for sure.
But Sonar always looked quite exciting to me. i haven't owned a Win PC in a long time so i haven't had a chance to ever use it.
I hope someone takes it on to keep it going or merge it into another product. No one wants to see a DAW die :(

Same deal as AKG, huge corporations buying out smaller companies and then pulling them down. And the people at the top don't give a shit. Gibson themselves are a victim of this.
    Huh?

What?? You're kidding...I really hope that someone picks up further development of CW. It would be a shame if this great DAW is dying!!

I have it on good authority that news just in. They are closing Cakewalk, and opening up a CakeShop!

Victoria slice, or Ice Bun anyone?

Hmmm maybe if you buy three cakes, you get a free guitar ?

ive owned this DAW for 15 years and used it longer >>> maybe someone will take it over and improve it \m/ only time will tell >>> it a way underated DAW >>> i can do things in Sonar that no other DAW can do for my workflow \m/ but like i said ive been using it for 20 + years >>> guess ill just hurry up and wait see what happens \m/ either way i own Cubase and Pro Tools so im not worried... even been picking up on Reaper for some time now so at least i still have options

Well RIP Sonar.... tho I am a Reaper head.. I did try out this software for a while..and there were some aspects to it
that I liked... just seems like Gibson is, and has been, stumbling as a company, they can't float a solid product like this?

Then just stick to making good.. or better guitars if that's all they can shoot for.. sheesh

I've been using Cakewalk/Sonar since version 1, it came on one floppy disk. I loved it then, I love it now.
I guess it will still be fine to use until it becomes obsolete, but that will probably be a long time.

Hmm...Sonar 4 home edition was my first ever DAW...some years ago...I loved it and used it and learned a lot...still have it somewhere...until i received an audio interface bundled up with Cubase 4 LE...no more Sonar
    Sorry Cakewalk, sorry for Sonar...
I hope Yamaha won't do anything like this to their DAW...ever!
