    Hey everyone,

I wanted to share with you this interesting survey which investigates the potential of audio automation technologies, in particular Neutron's one. You can participate at the following link where you'll find more informations about this research. It only takes few minutes and it could lead to unexpected results.

    Enjoy it!

My favorite subject. Artificial Intelligence in Music Productions — much of the buzz I heard is that the future of music, among others, will largely involves A.I. and human collaborations. I felt like the age has already begin. Always excited to see plugins, instruments, or software that comes with A.I. features to help overcome my limits.

Just completed the survey! Hoping to hear from results!

i had an idea using the calculus of fractals, to convert to a software which analyzes your audio signal of recorded track and perfectly adjust it based on previously selected criteria
(translation.....mofo robot mixes yo shit fool.)

So everyone is happy to take any last vestige of skill out of making music?

Hell Yes!!! You ever see that Jimmy Neutron episode where Jimmy made the instruments that played whatever you wanted them to no matter your skill level? I think it would be beautiful for anyone to be able to sit down and get the music that's in their head to come out of a speaker. Anything that makes that quicker/smoother/easier I am all for. It just means more good music and more people having fun!!

I think in such a world it's likely music will become something like what reality TV is, for example, for a very long time. Talentless popular people will take over the medium. It's already exactly that in a few cases imo. I've seen some music on youtube, videos (I will not name) with 60, 80, 100+ million views and millions of thumbs up that boggles my mind. Lyrics that amount to something akin to a drunk repeating one barely understandable slurred word or two in an under two minute, ehem, song. Perhaps the current state of some of the art world in a better example. Have you seen some popular art these days? You may know the type, a regular brown shoe box on the floor in a gallery, perhaps a little white card with one word on it next to it. Maybe a tampon, and a rice cooker next to a Polaroid picture of a cat. Nothing more. That's what some people consider a deep philosophical question, a reflection of something rather, and a master work of art. Now imagine no barrier or any skill whatsoever standing in the way of a "professional musician" (in this context), like art in many cases. Just gibberish poured out the mind of whoever can get the most victim points, or whatever is socially popular in the day. The musical equivalent of a plain brown shoe box of the floor. That's what I think will happen.

The good news is that it's likely a whole underground of actual musicians will form, the bad news is that they will be shammed out of society, therefore kept underground, perhaps illegally, by mobs of talentless hacks who now have taken over. Talent will likely be measured by race, gender and or sexual orientation, or something equally as vapid.

Hopefully, with any luck, I'll be dead before any of this comes to pass, should it ever.

I not arguing or saying that people should not listen/watch, ect whatever entertainment they want. I just think a society where such things as I described above are valued over an earned and refined talent is doomed to fail in all regards worth a damn, imo.

So, how about the results? Did enough people jump in to achieve a statistically significant conclusion?

it's all based on perception which is still based on personal experience via your own ears. Just use Neutron it doesn't make things sound good any more than a basic preset on a waves or various mastering plug in - in my opinion but again my opinion is based on my ears . Everyone is different. Let's be honest could a computer make most of the music out right now .... Yes it's not that special

All results will be published on January 7th. We have to collect enough data to have a statistically valid conclusion. We ask you to share with your fellow colleagues the survey to speed up this process. First answers are very interasting.

Would you upload mp3? Downloading wav file for people with limited traffic will lead to less participation in the survey

    Thank you for the question,

Dowloading files is just an option, you can also play individual audio files from my GDrive. I would rather to not upload these files in MP3 because the coversion would lead to a loss of quality that would undermine the application of a proper methodological procedure in the research.

I'm really sorry, I hate to say things like that, and I really like the idea and concept of this survey, but the results will be absolutely flaved and won't say anything about the topic.

Again, I'm sorry, but two of the mixes are absolutely terrible and the third is very below-average too. I'm sure it will be super-easy for AI to beat mixes like this.

Assuming that the Neuron is currently the best music-mixing AI, you really should choose if not the best, at least good human mixers. This is really apples-to-oranges comparsion.

very true. one of them sounds like you're listening to it through earmuffs. but i think part of the reason that the mixes sound so bad is that the rules did not allow any effects other than neutron to be used. everything is so dry.

    Thanks for replying HoubaZhouby,

I know that the Neutron's aim is not to replace a mixing engineer, infact my research is not based on judging mix quality but is based on indentifying the degree of recognizability of an A.I. processing chain. That's why i asked the audio professionals to work track by track in solo mode (without evaluating individual instruments processing in the context of the song) like Neutron would have done.

P.S I am the first to say that A.I. technologies still have a lot to do before they can be able to compete with human-made mixes.

So many songs today seem to be produced from a "music template" without any own character. Constructed, not played in a way. Song texts constisting only of a few poorly connected words. Meaning on an idiots level.
And this shit is bought, when the singer/speaker/mumbler has a sexy butt. Or is a good dancer ... The voice almost means nothing any longer. This is because, on average only 13 years old girls do buy music.
So isn't the indutry taken over already?
