for the price a PRS is a fantastic deal, you can get other good deals , but a prs is top deal too , not any better deals\

made well, hold value, easy maintain etc.

probably a fair amount, a bigsby adds value, improves regular tone and sustain , besides the vibrato effect which is cool too!
the bigsby actually gives better tone for regular playing improves sustain big time. compared to stop tail piece.

I first got a hold of my V because of a trade and i got great deal on it, not because it was my first choice, however after owning it, there are amazing qualities to it that beat other guitars,
it destroys a SG with the sg thin body and weight imbalance. and lighter and more comfortable than a les paul. ( although i love LP)
the only thing about the flying V to me that is drawback is intonation and staying in tune is not perfect but that is a guitar thing in general even though strat style guitars stay in tune more

Looks nice. I love when guitar manufacturers says strat tones.
    Enjoy...

I did a little guitar shopping, too. I just bought this sexy beauty for $409. She's a Gretsch G5439T Electromatic Pro Jet guitar with silver sparkles. She'll be in tomorrow.

Then this Rogue RA-090 dreadnought acoustic guitar for $60. She'll be in tomorrow, as well.

Yeah not so shabby for $469, I'd say.

That acoustic could be a good candidate for the Nashville 12 string trick.

Most famous Flying V with Bigsby I can think of is Lonnie Mack
    [IMG]

? Are you referring to Nashville tuning?

    It all looks very good.

C&C machines are getting so good that outside of the details and 'materials quality' its hard to fault a far eastern made guitar at those prices, especially if you are handy are going to change pickups / tuners / redo the nut or upgrade bridge / components. It's not rocket science, if you are a player its worth it, people that like to buy / sell / trade though are probably better off sticking to whatever the is on top of the heap at the moment.

    there is NO "floating string"

    but regarding the bigsby,

it has to do with the contact points of the bridge to the body,
with a reg stop tailpeice you have 2 fairly small bolts that attach to body ( 2 contact points) with not whole lot surface area. with the bigsby and the flying V it first creates more stability for the bridge ,next has more surface area so that the vibration is more stable giving more sustain.
[IMG] see in these pics the bridge stop tail piece connects to the body with 2 fairly small bolts.
now see with the bigsby here how much more surface area the connection to the guitar from the bridge is for the string vibration. and the contact points means sympathetic vibration connected to the "mass" area of the flying V
this by act of physics increases sustain in this circumstance.
so in this particular instance with the details involved with this exact guitar(flying V) and this exact bigsby type it increases sustain.

    http://www.esomogyi.com/principles.html

now a floating bridge like floyd rose kills sustain , it only has surface area of 2 very tiny screws in the back
the strat style bridge with 6 screws contact with body could be fairly good sustain under certain circumstances though
it is important to point out though we are talking about sustain in the tiny fine grain aspect of your guitar tone, kind of like when you upgrade from 100 dollar pickups to 300 dollar pickups it is more holographic and fine grain detail is improved.

It's good to have both single coil & humbucker equipped guitars for complementary textures, and a bass guitar will always come in handy too :winker:

How much string vibration happens outside of the nut and bridge? If it were so important why do most guitar strings take that awkward angle from the nut to the tuners?
So I should've kept my SG's Bigsby, which unfortunately needs a refret? This was a while ago but IF I had noticed a significant loss of sustain I would've put it back. I hated that thing shaving away my bridge saddles and going out of tune every time I used it. It's probably more of a balance (headstock dive) issue with guitars like the SG.
Never had the pleasure of trying those boutique $300 pickups.
Angus, Derek Trucks or Frank Zappa don't seem to mind the shitty SG tone.

By 'floating' I mean when you bend a string the others fall in pitch. I put a few dimes taped together and cranked the four springs to 'stop' the floating trem on this Hamer.
Instant sustain even with a rather small tremolo block.

that aspect effects sustain also, but im talking about the bridge part, a normal stop tail piece with no bigsby has only the 2 bolts for contact
it depends on the model of bigsby they not all the same, and it depends on the bridge of the sg you replaced the bigsby with and it matters the level of detail you are normally able to determine on your setup (say if you had cloudy amp not very detailed , or low end pickups might not notice a lot) especially the level of gain if you normally play with lot of gain amp cranked
all the way all these things can effect what you notice or not.
and if you have all those aspects well taken care of they will all add up to give you more tone and clarity, so it just depends on every little detail

any version of the sg that frank zappa, angus, derek trucks played would be a model that sold for more than 4 thousand dollars today, not in the same league as the normal 1000 dollar standard model im used to.

"By 'floating' I mean when you bend a string the others fall in pitch. I put a few dimes taped together and cranked the four springs to 'stop' the floating trem on this Hamer."

floating means the bridge is not fixed to the body , like a floyd rose or ibanez they are floating , a bigsby does not float it is fixed to the guitar
the bigsby is a different type technology than the one floyds and all them we grew up with haha( i had floyds for most my life so dont feel bad lol )

im not surprised if some adjustment you made to the guitar ,resulted in a change in the sound or way it plays it just comes down to the specifics.

if i owned a sg in the league of frank zappas and angus , i would be a happy camper indeed!

you can see here, that the gibson sg models range from $800, to over $8000

the comparison of a $800 guitar to a $8000 or even $4000 dollar guitar are insane
everything, every single part is different the cheaper ones are nothing at all like the high end, much like carsa nd computers and houses hahah! ( wish that wasn't nessisarliy the case haha

Ups, I missed this post (and rest after this) completely.

Nice sound, I like the liveliness and details though I didn't hear this kind for a long time. Reminds me of a good old friend I had.

I got this Danelectro D59 reissue sparkled black guitar the other day. Giving off a little bit of a scary vibe with the masks here, Halloween runs a little overtime where I'm at. :winker:
This guitar has a much more twangy sound to it (like a "surf-rock" twang). But as always you can use it for just about any genre. It actually sounds pretty amazing considering its compact size and extremely light weight. I've actually had acoustic guitars heavier than this one. It looks larger than it is but that's only because I'm a pretty petit dude (especially for a 25 year-old). I like the pickups on it. The strap pegs are pretty good unlike with the Gretsch I got. One of the strap pegs on the Gretsch was not very well made, so I can't really jump around too much playing it, otherwise I may drop my guitar. Other than that, the Gretsch still remains my favorite guitar.
All in all, I don't often hear much of Danelectro anymore. I don't see their guitars very often. I hear a lot about the big guys like Gibson, Fender, PRS, Ibanez, Epiphone, Taylor, Martin, etc. But I often take a look into the lesser known companies and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed by Danelectro. I really want a Danelectro Wild Thing baritone electric guitar, but cannot find one for sale right now anywhere for anything less than $800 (saw a few for $400 once but they all sold out).
One a side note: When I don't have a creepy mask on, I like looking at my reflection in this sparkling beauty.
I apologize if the photos give anyone nightmares LOL. :hahaha:
