from what i know facebook ads are not free, you have to pay.

fb ads are dead cheap, plus you get 20 $ worth of ads for free if you use fb ads for the first time.
you gotta spend money to make money.

 

Most people block ads anyway, so not worth it.

To get a fair conclusion he would need to run the same experiment about something that is worth engaging in, or something to buy, and another with a special offer and so on, until you've run the experiment with a wide variety of engagable and non-engagable Facebook pages. And, importantly, the OP didn't say that he was interested in Facebook ads for 'Likes;' he didn't state any reason.
