That's too bad! Kontakt in general is a *** when installing or upgrading to begin with which is why I was glad to have a portable version since I didn't want to disrupt my working 5.5.2 "normal" version. I still feel it should be possible to have both versions installed and completely disconnected from each other. For instance the portable doesn't have a service center with .xml files on the OS disks so that shouldn't interfer. Maybe you can also try to have the portable version on a flashdrive to see if that helps.

    UPDATE:

I can report back saying that the same issue I had in Cubase 7 is also happening with Cubase Pro 9 :-( There is definitely something in the way Cubase scans .dll files that doesn't work in having both 5.5.0 (or any other 5.5 version) and the new 5.6.6 Portable (or 5.6.8 portable) available inside Cubase... Reaper likes that no problem and may go for that at this point or scrap the 5.5.0 version all together and just work with 5.6.8 Portable which works well and all my libraries are authorized.

Hi…..Sorry for asking in comment I didn’t know how to ask in audiosex feed.i want to do remix a song but I didn’t get acapella version of a song from the web. How to separate acapella from a original song using software? (like izotope RX,Fl studio, ableton, audition cc etc.)….i think 100% is not possible but it possible at least 70%. Please help.

Thanks a lot for those tools.... I find this kind of things though quite intimidating to use.

Thanks for your kind suggestion to have the portable version on a flash drive but I sense that it won't make much difference, my issue it i related to something that Cubase doesn't like and won't allow two Kontakt vesrions to coexist, at least with one installed and this portable version. Have you tried installing the 5.6 version non portable? Cheers..

I installed the portable version for the very reason I'd like 2 versions to co-exists (plus didn't want to mess up my "default" version).
Thing with the portable version is it should behave in such a way it doesn't interfer with an installed other version, hence "portable" so I still think it's possible to run both as two seperate VST's.

The tools are pretty self explanatory. For instance you can run the SNPID checker and Registry tool just to see if 2 versions of Kontakt conflict. This will help you one step further.

Other than that I am as much in the dark regarding Kontakt's working (as most people on this forum are based on the countless threads). @Pinkman seems to know his way best though so if you're lucky he might be willing to help with a PM but Kontakt's a b****h everytime on every different OS.

I've been using Kontakt 5.6.8 Portable in Windows 8. My DAW is Sonar Platinum. I've been running it as administrator, as stated in included instructions. I just bought a new Windows 10 computer, and reinstalled
all my software. No issues except for Kontakt Portable. Standalone version is working OK, getting error message when opening in Sonar as VST. It won't open as administrator like on my Windows 8 computer. I've done all the basic troubleshooting like disabling antivirus, updating drivers, and changing administrator rights with no success. Attached file is error message in Russian. any Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Robert

Thanks again Spiritos for your kind reply and suggestions, I will try running the two Kontakt tools you gave me and see what comes out;-)
I did also post my issue in the Cubase section of this forum and someone came back with a similar problem that was due to VST ID conflict inside the actual .dll files. To edit that I was told that it is not a straight and simple thing. As a matter of fact I did open the various .dll files with Notepad ++ and the language is beyond me to say the least...

    Hi all,

In any VST ID sensitive DAW's like Cubase, you won't be able to use both Kontakt 5.6.6 dll's AND Kontakt 5.6.8 dll's side by side.

Copying renamed 5.6.8 dll's in the VST folder won't do the trick, the Daw will just load the 1'rst found because 5.6.6 and 5.6.8 share the same ID.

To avoid this, you have to manually change the ID and the Kontakt 5.dll call within the dll files.

Upon a working Kontakt 5.6.6 installation carefully follow this tricky procedure.
Work in a folder of your choice and on copies of original dll's:

    1. Download the 3 Kontakt 5.6.8 dll's we are going to operate and an Hex editor.

    2. Rename the 3 Kontakt 5.6.8 dll's with names of the same size as originals.
Both 8out an 16out dll's call the main Kontakt 5.dll and changing the
filename size will also change dll file itself witch might be risky.

    Let's say: Kontakt68.dll / Kontakt68 8out.dll / Kontakt68 16out.dll
(those names will appear in you DAW)

Now we have to change VST ID's.

Original ID for Kontakt 5.dll is "NiO5"
Original ID for Kontakt 5 8out.dll is "NiO6"
Original ID for Kontakt 5 16out.dll is "NiO7"

But ID's are coded in reverse mode in the files. "NiO5" = "5OiN" and so on...

    3. Launch the Hex editor and load your new Kontakt68.dll

Search for the string "5OiN" (without quote and "O" not zero)
Replace the 2 occurrences with a 4 letter ID of your choice.
Be sure not to borrow ID from one of your other plugin or you will replicate the exact same problem.
I personally only changed the "O" letter and kept the number (5,6,7) increment.
    Save the file.

    4. Load the Kontakt68 8out.dll into the hex editor.

Search for "6OiN" and change ID as above. (a different one)
    There is only one occurrence.

    5. Now we have to make this dll call our new Kontakt68.dll instead of the previous Kontakt 5.dll.

Still in the hex editor, search for the "Kontakt 5" string
the 1st found instance must be next to the string "NICreatePlugInInstance"
Replace this "Kontakt 5" string by your new dll name, here "Kontakt68"
    Save the file.

    6. The same way, Load the "Kontakt68 16out.dll" into the hex editor.

But now search for "7OiN" and change ID as above. (a different one)
    There is only one occurrence.

    7. Now we also have to prevent this dll from calling the previous Kontakt 5.dll

Still in the hex editor, search for the "Kontakt 5" string
the 1st found instance must be next to the string "NICreatePlugInInstance"
Replace this "Kontakt 5" string by your new dll name "Kontakt68"
    Save the file.

    8. Copy those 3 new Kontakt68 dll's in your VST folder aside the Kontakt 5.6.6 ones.
Rescan plugins in your DAW and voilà, both versions are now available.

    Cheers.

Does this actually work? Can I use kontakt 5.6.8 seamlessly when adding new libaries?

Also, your directions are not very direct and lack grammar/punctuation. Is there another guide I can follow?

    Thanks.

There's a slightly (well maybe =) easier way to do a similar thing to the above, except w/o hex editing. If u install (ie) 565 & 568 to two different dirs, u can either bridge or wrap (VEP et al) the version of Kontakt u want, and (ie) create three different versions of Kontakt in bridged folder. Or two different versions if ya wanna use a wrapper. That way, u can just rename Kontakt versions & have them coexist.

Actually, I managed to make the 5.7.1 Portable work side by side with 5.5.1 and 5.6.8 in Cubase 9.0.3.

At first, having 5.5.2 and 5.6.8 (working together), the new 5.7.1 dlls were blacklisted. I then renamed 5.5.2 and 5.6.8 to "*_old" to make new ones work, and they did. After that, I wanted to compare the CPU consumption, so I renamed the old ones back to normal and expecting that 5.7.1 no longer works. But actually, after that, all 3 were working fine, showing in the cubase list and all. Go figure! :)

Hi guys, I would like to add my contribution. I have the two versions of Kontakt (portable and not) and they coexist really fine in Reaper. But I have problems with Komplete Kontrol because he is adressing to only one version, the non-portable, which is older and doesn't work well with some libraries. I still couldn't find a solution in order to force Komplete Kontrol to address to Kontakt Portable. Any help will be really appreciated.
