Maybe, just maybe there is an angry, silent, future coder here and is listening to this debate and will take this to a new level.
Not pointing fingers, but @foster911 is listening.

ah perhaps I did I guess,
I see nothing to "change" from devs side, only a troublesome situation at which we need to find solution ourselves to our workflows, howto deal with this somewhat unfortunate situation of inevitable major OS leap to happen within few years

Still the time is not there yet. And given the state of Win10 today, it will take time for devs to truly abandon it - they are well aware of their user base, cutting cords to Win7 would certainly reflect on their reputation. Audio users don't like radical changes.
Why are we still using 7-bit CC when 14-bit CC is standardized for decades?

Therefore no need to panic now - all other points stand.

Ok, my first MS-DOS was 6 but what you describe has been the object of anger since day one with MS.
I always find it funny to read from people hating MS but using MS products for ages. Just ditch it.
I'm with MS for 30 years or so now and I don't feel butfucked. Of course there is bloatware! Just get rid of it. Sure, I have to tweak my windows to my liking but if I compile my Linux from scratch, yeah, there's also some nifty tweaking involved.
Windows 7 is a rocksolid OS, as is Win10.

In that case, I'm happy for you.

Still, there's no reason to stir this kind of drama in form of this thread. Is it an issue? Of course it is!
But what is going to happen, most likely wouldn't be decided here.

As SineWave put it, PCs (incl. MACs) are just tools.

To contribute with something constructive, there are a couple of upgrade paths I'd suggest in case this happens:
    1. Windows 10 LTSB (3rd lite iteration by ivankehayov)
    2. LMDE x64 with REAPER and WINE
    3. Windows 8.1 lite (support up until 2023)

Oh, I agree with you there.
I used to stop reading a thread once the drama started. But I have found that if I just hold my nose and get through it, there are sometimes nuggets of information that is useful tucked in between the lines of ranting and name calling (if they come to blows, haha). So I guess you could say I have mixed feelings about if different threads are useful or not based on that experience. Good info is still good info at the end of the day, even if how it's being served is distasteful.
I don't envy you guys, the admins, your jobs having to police these threads. I like that you run a sort of tight ship in that regard. One of the many things that make this such a great community to be a part of!
    Thank you! Respect.

    @Andrew
My friend, i haven't seen you in quite a while, how are you ? I hope all is fine with you :)
For me, there is always a hidden prankster side to the Steyr Threads heheh. Yeah the main theme is sorta bland alright but look at how many peeps responded, one person even got helped from something posted that included a technical answer perhaps...
Oh and where is the v3 of the LTSB by ivankehayov ? I 'd love to check it out but I can only see v2 man... if you are certain be so kind to drop a pm, thanks :)

Windows 10 is shit and to slow in comparaison of windows 7 so I will stay on seven as long I can and after probably migrate to OS X if Microsoft cant deliver a better OS than windows 7...

What we're seeing is the end of an era in computing as we know it and the beginning of another.

First era were home computers like TRS-80, VIC-20, Commodore-64, Spectrum... ending with Atari and Amiga. That's when another era begins and we see the rise of PCs, Windows, and Internet in the 90s. Golden silicon age in the 2000s... breaking the GHz barrier and making the process of manufacturing CPUs smaller on a regular basis. What we see now is that silicon era coming to a close. Manufacturing of CPUs will have to change from silicon to something better and that "something" is going to be much faster.

We will use desktop PCs only for really demanding computational tasks like video, audio and scientific computations. So all desktop operating systems will become not as widely used and MS is losing that race although you probably can't see that yet. You should follow slashdot.org more.

Personally, technology is beginning to be more interesting again. Years of MS and Intel dominance were boring. I'm glad the winds are changing! :)

Who can tell what will making music look like in just 10 years from now? If nothing really serious happens to the mankind in the meantime, that is.

They doing everything to move ppl to shitbag 10, I hate you microshit
guys we really need to suppotrt Linux. this is the great thing. if you gamer you can use vine framework for dx shitty games
but vulkan is state of the art API. I guess we will see more vulkan powered games in future.
Also it's possible to use fast and robust vulkan for general computing instead of OpenCL, shitty CUDA and compute shaders.
    Vulkan much faster than OpenCL

my humble forecast is that graphics card manufacturers finally fully realize the potential of parallel processing nowadays gpus are already capable of, literally 1000x better than multicore Xeons nowadays, it's only a matter of time devs will learn to utilize CUDA and OpenCL for other tasks than graphics processing,
past recent years computers have become totally usable for audio processing and now the limit is parallel processing of all the tracks simultaneously while keeping overhead latency low, that's where CPUs will never be able to win...

that's already possible, but it cause buffer overhead and then some more latency than mid range cpus. But with Vulkan game changing
