So I just put together a new computer and got parts recommended to me by chaps over at tomshardware
however it seems they fucked with me

This is what I got
Crosshair VI Hero mobo
Ryzen 7 1700x CPU
GSkill F4 3200 RAM

The problem is I'm not getting the 3200mhz out of the ram according to cpu-z
Here's what CPU-z says


What am I doing wrong? :P
I've updated the BIOS and tried some preset overclocking profiles that say it'll get 3200 out of the RAM but it doesn't work

 

Is there a multiplier for cpu-z perhaps? 1064 x 3? :P

 

this is a wide spread issue in Ryzen boards since release.
there are many threads about this on toms hardware, try the different solutions/workarounds

best bet imo is to go back to the thread where they recommended you the parts and report your results

If you thought consumer ram is gonna reach 3.2 GHZ, you're deluded. That's CPU range, man. A more realistic figure is 1.6ghz, which is exac tly what cpuz is saiyan. This is, really, jacking up number s to impress consumers.

 

true story, he is actually running at 2 x 1064,5 = 2129 Mhz
there is some juice left with the right settings, only luck will bring you to 3200
but if the system runs well, maybe a good choice to just not bother

at least the ram is listed in the boards QVL list, so it wasn't a totally wrong purchase.

curious about Ryzen daw performance, should be a nice rig i guess?

 

Look at the picture: Max Bandwith: DDR4-2132 (1066MHz) This is exactly what you see in JEDEC #7, which is normal MoBo confuguration.
For XMP 3200 (which results hopefully in 1600MHz, not real 3200MHz!) you will need the appropriate MoBo and usually have to make manual adjustments in the BIOS. It's a well known problem with this kind of RAM.
I hope you will get your hyper speed.

sorry if it sounded rude, it wasn't meant that way,

 

in practice, you need to OC DDR... 3200mhz is "tested" speed that you get when OC-d
XMP is unstable on AMD so you need to do everything manual... for your model you need to set-up latency 16 - 16 - 16 - (16) -36 and voltage 1.35v and multiplier of freq... keep in mind that your SOC voltage is in between 1.1v and 1.2v... also keep in mind when you are using all DDR channels that speed will be automatically lower... next thing... if you manage to set it on 3200mhz (minus reduction for all channels in use) then you are probably gonna get BSoD... it actually depends on mobo and bios version and tuning voltages and bla bla bla (be aware that at this point your RAM is OC-d AF!)... so you just nedd to lower your multiplier where everything works fine...

my spec for example:
rzyen 1700
16 gb vengeance lpx 3200 (working stable on 3033mhz) (latency:16 - 18 - 18 - (18) - 36 , voltage 1.35v)
ga-ab350m gaming 3 (bios version F6)

XMP has to be set manually in the bios. Since amd is still not good with pushing memory to its limits it probably won't make any difference and it won't bsod; the nominal speed set in bios is not the actual speed achieved in the computer - the actual speed depends on the cpu and amd cpus are still no match to intel at least when it comes to ipc and single core power (which is responsible for the communication with the memory)

 

lol guys, i run my Ryzen 1700x since abt March without ANY problems.
NO BSOD , NOTHING, its performant as hell and outperforms by far anything i know.

here a screenshot Cubase 9 pro running 15 Omnisphere Plugins , every Omni runs in Multitimbral mode 8 synths/instruments (15 x 8 "instruments"). ASIO GUARD is at max. RME 802Fireface at 256 samples.
The performance meter is at 80% the CPU Meter is distributed equally over 8 cores + 8 threads . The screenshot is on a 4 K monitor:

you need to enable it in BIOS,
similarly as Intel XMP is required to be turned on in order to run higher-clocked ram sticks with Intel cpus, AMD most likely has something similar

 

amazing, thats what i expected from such a rig and 1700x is just the sweet spot, great!

In one of the last episodes of Linus Tech Tips he mentioned that Ryzen has an issue with RAM Speeds above 3000 MHz. I think a bios update fixes that, but you should do some more research on the topic first.
