Avicii has a "signature" leads, where they sound all airy and jumpy (and gated)
Examples you can find on "levels"

Any idea or techniques on how to get that sound?

Hi There,

There is an in the studio with..... episode with Avicii. He explains the making of levels. quite inspiring for a mainroom house producer.

If you can't find it. I have a short explanation for you.

VST's

Sylenth1 high melody (i though the tele synth preset with some tweaks)
Sylenth1 for chords to support the melody Don't know the preset
Sylenth1 Better Moog (or moog preset) for bass
and Nexus for layering those chords.
for strings in the break, he used los angeles strings (not sure which KONTAKT Library)
and last but not least dblue glitch (FREE) for the stopper effect on the end of the melody part.

I can add to it

use layers for a big sound it's better as a distortion plugin in this case and your sounds get richer and fuller.
when all sounds come together (beats and kick and Bass) Use gentle sidechaining on the chords so you can barely hear the pumping on the chords and offcourse on the bass but more a bit more agressive settings.

But you know, everyone has their own taste in music...

 

I saw this.. I was surprised how many VST Presets he used and how many layers he throws on top of that.

 

hahahah avicii is using Sylenth1 cracked by TEAM R2R in this HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Can he fuck himself any harder?

 

For the lead part, it's mostly a matter of clever layering and sidechaining. Watch the video.
I just add a few notes :

- sidechaining doesn't have to be a compression, it can be a volume LFO
- you NEED different release time and level on these.
- the fatter your "body" sound, the more pluck you will (get mad with compression, and decay speed on the pluck)
- most of the time it sounds quite bad on its own. But layered, it's good.
