HOW TO USE A LEGIT (PURCHASED) LIBRARY IN AN UNLOCKED KONTAKT

Disclaimer: This was tested on a Mac, but this solution could also work on Windows.

I decided to write this tutorial after I’ve spent quite some time trying to get my legit library to coexist in peace with my other (unlocked) libraries. The specific library I have purchased requires Kontakt 5.6.8 or later, so that was one of the issues I had to overcome. I found a solution, that works.

1. Download and NI Kontakt Free Player
2. Download and install NI Access
3. Register and add your legit library to Kontakt Free Player via NI Access
4. Install NI Kontakt Full (unlocked) 5.6.5
5. Use only the AU plugin (or VST if you’re on Windows) to use with your DAW - don’t overwrite the standalone Kontakt 5.6.5
6. Use the Kontakt 5.6.5 standalone to add unlocked libraries (even if they require 5.6.8 - they’ll be added, they just won’t show up in the standalone app)
7. Use Kontakt 5.6.8 plugin in your DAW to use your legit and unlocked libraries

Valuable piece of info. What your OSX version?

 

I tried this years ago but it comes unstuck when you get a "can not install on this Mac. Full version found" Now perhaps I could move my Kontakt app, but I suspect I'd have to move prefs, files in app support, xml docs in service center, any links in Native Access, etc. At this point I would be so nervous, I'd hide under the bed and phone any emergency services I can think of. Paramedics would sedate me and as I'm wheeled out on a gurney, they'd be wondering why I keep whimpering "contact broken, no contact.... "

 

This is quite interesting. Why don't you share it in the Kontakt section of this forum?

Thanks! macOS Sierra 10.12.5, and latest Logic Pro X.

 

When I try to install it, it does say that the newer version of Kontakt was found, but that the installation would continue.

 

I thought this was the Kontakt section of the forum. Feel free to post it elsewhere where you think people would benefit from it
