    Hi guys,

I'm looking to move my Kontakt, with all its databases, onto another computer (sample libraries are on an external HD). What do I need to move? I'm on a Mac. The reason for this is that one library is working on one computer, but not on another one (even though I took the same steps), for whatever reason.

    Thanks!

That's not what I'm asking here. I need to copy the whole Kontakt to another machine, including its list of libraries, etc.

#1 IN Kontakt preferences point to the EXISTING library location
    #2 press RESCAN
    #3 Pray

What do you mean in preferences point, and existing library location? I just deleted all .plist files in /users/user/Library and /Library for all the libraries, deleted all traces of Kontakt, and tried copying and pasting all the Kontakt data from the other computer, but the libraries still don't show up in the same order / one library is still missing.

If you keep the same drive letters on the other computer, you can easily do it by exporting and importing the registry settings.

    in Regedit:

    First export
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments
    and then
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Native Instruments

Then import them on the other computer, and you will have all your library, even organised the same way as you had before.

EDIT: Aha sorry, did not see you are on MAC this is on Windows, where it is super easy :)

Not sure how it work on mac to use boogiewoogie's method (I'm on a PC too, so I'll note this method for later, thanks) but here's how I do it, as I use Kontakt on 3 differents computer.

I first installed all my banks on an external hd (like you, it seems), and then I just installed kontakt (the vst/au/standalone, whetever you use) on the 2 others computer (without the soundbanks). Then I scan and some banks don't show up, so for those one I add them manually with the "add library" button. It can be a long process if you have a lot of bank, but at least you don't have to install/copy them with the exe (or dmg I guess for mac) file. Basically you just need to manually tell your kontakt where are the banks (but one by one if it doesn't show every bank with the scan).
To not miss some, as I have a large number of bank, I note every bank on a text file I have, by alphabetic order (at least only for the one that need to be add, some don't have the "official" menu - don't remember how they call that), and so I can use this as a checklist everytime I make a new installation of Kontakt (but next time I'll try boogiewoogies's method).

It's long but still faster than having to launch every bank installation one by one. Maybe there is a quicker way, but I don't know about it

There is nothing to it. You just copy the libraries over (wherever you want to store them) and add them to that Kontakt. (add lib or drag into quickload if they don't have ncint files) Done!

OK, so I should explain this in more detail. I have two laptops (both MacBook Pros). They both have Kontakt 5.6.5 installed as standalone, and Kontakt 5.6.8 as plugin. On laptop 2 (my secondary laptop), I managed to add a legit library (with a custom .ninct file, not the original one, which requires 5.6.8 to run, because when it asked me to enter my admin password, I entered it, and then the dialog “Confirm this dialogue to make the changes permanent” only appeared when I quit Kontakt, and on laptop 2, I could still enter my password to confirm this. However, when I try to do the same on laptop 1 (my primary laptop), when I quit Kontakt after adding the library, I get the “Confirm this dialogue to make the changes permanent”, and I click OK, but the app quits without giving me the option to enter the password. And as such, the library doesn’t appear on laptop 1 in the DAW (5.6.8).

    Does that make sense?

I just tried to run Kontakt standalone on laptop 1 and add the library like that, doesn't do anything. I have no idea how it could have worked on laptop 2, but not on laptop 1...

So ideally, I would want to take EVERYTHING Kontakt on one computer, including the order of the libraries, preferences, everything, and just move it to another computer.

Have you tried copying all your Kontakt related folders from one machine to the other?
    I mean EVERYTHING.
    Applications
    Application Support
    Users/yourusername
    Users/Shared
    VSTs and Components
    And every .plist

Search function + "Kontakt" to find everything.

Make sure to give yourself the necessary permissions or use Batchmod

I've done that, the only difference is I didn't change permissions. I don't understand how it's possible to delete everything Kontakt related on one machine (using EasyFind too), then copy everything from the other machine, and the libraries still don't appear as they do on the other machine. Very, very puzzling.

I figured out the solution to my issue:

HOW TO USE A LEGIT (PURCHASED) LIBRARY IN AN UNLOCKED KONTAKT

I decided to write this tutorial after I’ve spent quite some time trying to get my legit library to coexist in peace with my other (unlocked) libraries. The specific library I have purchased requires Kontakt 5.6.8 or later, so that was one of the issues I had to overcome. I found a solution, that works.

    1. Download and NI Kontakt Free Player
    2. Download and install NI Access
    3. Register and add your legit library to Kontakt Free Player via NI Access
    4. Install NI Kontakt Full (unlocked) 5.6.5
    5. Use only the AU plugin (or VST if you’re on Windows) to use with your DAW - don’t overwrite the standalone Kontakt 5.6.5
    6. Use the Kontakt 5.6.5 standalone to add unlocked libraries (even if they require 5.6.8 - they’ll be added, they just won’t show up in the standalone app)
    7. Use Kontakt 5.6.8 plugin in your DAW to use your legit and unlocked libraries

    Good luck!
