Not to boast around and show off, I've bought 9 Pro....may be 10 days back.... and I'm genuinely interested in what Cubase is actually capable of as oppose to @Helter Skelter points. Before someone blasting my ears out with GO CHECK YOURSELF, I was using Reaper and still planning to use it for plugins with heavy duty stuff. I got the impression from Cubase forum that 9 update didn't get some of the major requests such as bezier curve or more inserts (it's 2017) etc and old users are quite disappointed. I'm eager to learn Cubase as quickly as possible to get rid of the dependency on other DAW(s) so may be you or someone would like to correct @Helter Skelter but not with one liner.

I'm no fanboi of any DAW, I used S1 since it's first came out and the legit one, but dumped it due to various factors despite it's superiority in many areas.

Did your girl abandon you @Jazz-N-Stuff? We are here for you if you need someone to talk. Joking aside. Do you mean professional EDM Artists or why you are comparing numbers of omnisphere instances running smoothly? I know professional Podcasters, who use Reaper. I know professional EDM Artists who trust in Live and Fruity Loops. For sure there are many who trust in Cubase, too.

When it comes to professional Recording Studios then it's mostly Pro Tools, Logic and Cubase like @TW said (cubendo especially in Germany). Pro Tools is still the most omnipresent. In professional Mastering Studios you often find Sequoia and Wavelab. And a professional recording/mixing engineer has to deal with them all. Well, not with Reaper. :bleh:

How fast ones workflow gets with any DAW is eventually a matter of habits and lots of practice. That is the sometimes hard to swallow thruth.. some DAWs take more time to learn then others. I'd say Cubase is not as hard to get your head around as Reaper and Live, because the two can be a bit overwhelming for first time users.

Best case scenario if you know some people who already work with Cubase @ed-enam. They can tell you about shortcuts and stuff you want to use. You already know some DAWs. So, if you are willing to learn, I guarantee, you can get there very fast with Cubase.

Don't get too attached to unique features and you don't get frustrated when something is not included in an update  And under no circumstances wait for an update. Make some music and be happy with what is so.

@ed-enam I don't think we will get an answer from @popeye because he/she doesn't have the balls/tits to say anything useful. When I asked him to clarify it was more of a rhetorical question, as I knew @popeye wouldn't have the balls/pussy to answer and also the points in my list are correct.

As been said before, no DAW has all features of the others.

If you need to burn DDPs you can just use reaper or S1 for that, the rest of the points are not show stoppers, but they do make some things easier and faster, at least for me.

Keep in mind that the list was just to make a point to the person who said cubase can do everything reaper can,
no need to feel insecure about your Cubase purchase, you will be fine.

With every new version Cubase has gotten bigger and more flexible. I could write a few hours about what it offers, maybe a few months ago i would have.
The best thing is to go trough each version and its features. Groove3 has video tutorials for some versions, i think its available on the sister site or on the russian torrent site.
You can do pro work with very limited amount of knowledge and use it as a basic daw and not even touch the advanced options, thats the beauty of it, it supports several work flows but all lead to you learning more and more, its very natural with this daw, you will want to learn because unlike many daws its fun to do work in it.
For mega scoring projects and huge templates nothing comes close to it, hence why the big boys in the cinema business all use cubendo, even the indepentent smaller composers mostly use it.
    Its a workhorse.

I'm not, I was done with my calculations before buying it but naturally a new user will be curious to find out more. I'm starting to get a hang of it and loving it. Just don't like trashing something in one liners which only suits Ygritte -- 'You know nothing, Jon Snow' :D.

@Mainzelman I'm, most of the time, reading manual, watching YT videos, reading forums. Some features in Reaper and S1 make your life easy that's it....not show stoppers. There is a reason why Cubase is so popular!

I dunno, but be careful if you always wanna be "right". VST3 have been "unloaded" when not in use since liek forevers, Cubendo works on XP. Rest of points seem plain weird and/or wrong and/or irrelevant. And so on. I mean, it's kinda personal preference, rly; as much as in how much time u have invested in ur workflow. Point scoring is pretty irrelevant.

side note: just wanted to comment that "perfectionism" is often a sign of concentration difficulties. so, for some, that may be worth taking into account when deciding if you really need "more" or in reality you may need limited choice all depending on your experiences so far.

of course this is just a reminder for people who feel they struggle extra much and struggle more than regular getting things done fiddling with settings etc instead of been able to focus on arrangement and such. cheers

That almost sounds like some kind of cubendo FOMO
joining @EddieXx.. Perfectionism can be a blessing and a curse. It can give you the power of endurance (this is why lot's of artists are perfectionists) to achieve your goal but it can also scatter your process to a point where you get stuck.
Maybe you should make a list of features you really can't live without.

Focus on the things you can improve yourself with what you got (maybe your workflow, learn shortcuts, learn specific tools and become a perfectionist in using these tools), don't rely on others to give you more options. There already are so much possibilities to completely loose yourself in them.:)

FL Studio users would find Cubase/Protools/Live/Reaper/Logic/Bitwig/... so dull.

    Hi famouslut,
actually I don't want to be "right", and I totally agree with you about point scoring. I just want to contribute what I know and learn from others here. I would be happy to be proven wrong.

It is clear that you have not read my post thoroughly before posting.

Yes for tracks, but not for items. I'm talking about item processing here. In cubase you have to render your item FX so unloading is irrelevant. Just wanted to clarify to people how reaper handles offloading for item based FX that are not rendered. The point still remains, cubase can not do item based FX and automation. Cubase can process an item or part of an item with FX. Reaper has copied parts of item based features from sequoia/samplitude, and this might be relevant to mastering applications, film scoring, game music or anywhere else where an item based workflow might come in handy.

Again please read my post thoroughly.

Current Cubase (version 9), can only run on
    64-Bit Windows 7 / 8.x / 10
    OS X 10.11 / macOS Sierra

Current Reaper (version 5.40), can run on
    32/64-bit Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10
    32/64-bit OS X 10.5-10.12

So the point remains. Current Cubase can not run on XP. This might be relevant to people who don't want to buy a new computer but still have the latest iteration of their DAW.

    Please explain why?

It doesnt matter as you can have several version installed on the same computer with one licence and 8.5 is both 32/64bit and it also contains an internal brigder.

*sigh* distinction without a difference? WTF is an "item", in music tech terms anyway?

Well, you changed the point, so little "remains"! I guess I can go through the rest of the list you made, but if it looks like trolling, feels liek trolling & smells like trolling... Y'know? Also, I don't care enough!

Sorry but I'm not waisting time getting involved in a DAW war, nor am I interested in conversing with such low life (trolls) calling out Balls/Titts or Pussy's.

Have some RESPECT, if not for yourself then for others reading these posts, from all genders.

Helter and/or Skelter, it all equals trash......so keep yours in the can where it belongs and respect the forum and the people using it.

Ha ha, since when is making a list of differences between reaper and cubase trolling? You are funny @famouslut
You don't have to answer if you don't want too, it's just that you seem to have strong opinions about that list. Calling it weird, irrelevent etc. with no further explanation. And then accusing ME of trolling.

But hey, let's be friends. I thought the video you posted was funny.

I'm using the word "item" here because thats what its called in Reaper. In Cubase i think its "event". Logic calls it "Region".

Hey Von Steyr, thanks for the info, so cubase 8.5 runs on XP, good to know for some people.

Still on a personal level, I want to have the latest version of the DAW I'm using without updating OS X. On the mac side cubase is a bit like Logic forcing you to update to Sierra if you want to use the new features of C9.

S1 and reaper are more forgiving here -giving you the option to stay with older OS X versions. So personally I don't like this with steinberg.

Someday I'll probably buy cubase if I find I miss some MIDI stuff and have more money than now. But right now I only use basic midi stuff, and for audio I find I don't miss anything with reaper, on the contrary. Also I've used cubendo since SX3 so I have a lot of old projects but they open fine in cubase elements 8 (had to save them all in cubase 5 first though).

Yes, that can be a disadvantage.

For audio work and basic midi, S1 is more than enough, so is Reaper.

Ok, well If you want to be respected then maybe you should write in a respectful manner yourself. The tone in your post was inflammatory, saying that its obvious that I don't know anything about cubase, and then running away without any arguments to back up your case. THAT is trolling. If you would have replied in a more humble way, I wouldn't have responded in such a strong way. And for the record, I did not mean anything sexist with saying balls/pussy. I just didn't want to exclude anyone.

Anyway, if you or anyone else was offended, I apologise.
