Hi Beth, since you asked I will explain. For thirty (30) years I have been writing appellate briefs. Point headings are written in capital letters. That is the reason. There is no capitalization within the body of my thread to support your position that I am shouting out of anger and frustration. I hope this explanation will serve to clarify this issue and allow the thread to serve its intended purpose.

You cannot please everybody. No matter what you do and how you go about doing something, there would always be those that are ready to point the finger at you and criticize you. As I have said many times, am not here to win any popularity contest.

I guess a MOD got fed up with the capitalized title controversy and edited it, however, the MOD forgot to capitalize the first word. LOL. Now we have mods editing titles, too.

    A MESSAGE TO THE MOD

Hey MOD, if you are going to edit something that a member has written, at least make sure that you do so correctly.

    @farao
What is "nasty" about my sentence? If a MOD is going to be editing posts the OP should be informed of it and provided with a reason.

@tonyg0499 so you are a 30+ year Miami lawyer....

in case NO ONE ever told you ... typing IN ALL CAPS... for those other than LAWYERS is tantamount to SHOUTING for no GOOD REASON

why am I even having to say this...

AUDIOSEX is not a place where you NEED TO SUBMIT APPELLATE BRIEFS FFS !

I didn't say I was, YOU SAID IT. Typing in all caps in a title or heading is totally different from doing it within the body of the text. DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW!

@tonyg0499 Your statement above is not necessarily correct in all cases.

There exists a recognized principle known as "netiquette". It's not a rule, certainly not a law; merely a convention. Adherents of "netiquette" voluntarily refrain from formatting whole words in caps. They believe that no matter where it may appear, as either title, heading, or text body, any whole word formatted entirely in caps indicates shouting. Use of caps may be permissible to denote loud speech e.g., when talk is quoted, but caps should otherwise be used most sparingly.

As you are no doubt aware, "netiquette" conventions emerged at a time several years before the general adoption of the worldwide web as a public facility for exchanging text messages. "Netiquette" has a certain provenance that some people hold dearly. Of course, you are at liberty to break from convention and format your contributions however you choose. Please be aware, though, that in certain circles an overuse of caps shall cause dismay.

I believe @Herr Durr purposefully introduced caps into his text in order to illustrate the ill-effect of inappropriate text formatting within a message intended for an internet forum. Likewise the titles of messages that parody this thread. I am, however, somewhat at a loss of understanding of your reason for responding in kind to @Herr Durr. Perhaps you might be so kind as to justify why you did that.

Please don't burden yourself with an onerous duty of attempting the demeaning task of teaching me the conventions of formal document formatting. Others have done that job before you. Rest assured that I am as knowledgeable and as qualified as are you in that field. So, for my personal edification, I respectfully request that you help me to understand the reason(s) why you "shouted" at @Herr Durr and nothing more.

    Thank you for your time.

I will explain to you, out of courtesy, why I wrote to @Herr Durr in the manner in which I did. When I offered my explanation to @Beth I thought that that issue had been solved and the thread would continue as intended. When @Herr Durr brought back the capitalization issue he or she was not content with just making a point. A "cheap shot" also had to be taken by @Herr Durr, too. I was givin @Her Durr a taste of his or hers own medicine. It was me being sarcastic and not ill intended. I also contacted @Herr Durr By PM.

What surprises me the most about this whole thing is that none of the members (you included) that have focused on the use of capital letters have contributed to the main theme of this thread. But then...it would be a miracle if that didn't take place. The proposition for which a thread stands is of no significance here.

Rule 10: Be forgiving of other people's mistakes
Not everyone has the same amount of experience working in the virtual world. And not everyone knows the rules of netiquette. At some point, you will see a stupid question, read an unnecessarily long response, or encounter misspelled words; when this happens, practice kindness and forgiveness as you would hope someone would do if you had committed the same offense. If it's a minor "offense," you might want to let it slide. If you feel compelled to respond to a mistake, do so in a private email rather than a public forum.Adapted from The Core Rules of Netiquette Shea, V. (1994). Core rules of netiquette. Thank you for bridging the gap in my comprehension @tonyg0499 I appreciate your taking the time to write.

You raised an interesting point. I have indeed not contributed to your topic. I agreed with the sentiment. However, by the time that I came upon this article it had become a running commentary unrelated to the original posting. The best that I was able to do was attempt to converse with you, the OP, in civil tones.

Perhaps later we might revisit your note of guidance for "newbies". For now, I withdraw while you tackle the tricky problem of getting it back on the rails.

Good day to you, sir. :shalom:
