Hi there, sometimes I work with loops/drum loops. I love to put my own stamp on them. At the moment I use Ableton Sampler, which does a fine job. But i'd like to go a step further.

I used Audiofinder, which is great manipulating Samples and is also quite good for drum loops. For example you can rearrange and randomnize slices. I can recommend this to anyone.

I tried Geist 2, but I dont really like it, because its like a DAW itself and it crashes alot when I bounce tracks in my main DAWs: Ableton and Bitwig. (I'm a fan of Bitwig's drum replacer btw)

Furthermore, I tried Alchemy 2 in Logic which is quite cool but I'm not sure how well it deals with just regulair drum loops. But I couldn't be bothered with Logic, because it does not fit my workflow.

What I basically want is a standalone program (or VST/AU) that can run on Windows or MAC (I use both)

I prefer software which is not hard to master and straightforward for sample manipulation and/or slicing drum loops. I've been eyeballing TwistedWave and Audiomulch, but I'm not sure if it will fit my purposes.

So here is my question, what is your favourite?

    I dont have Reason unfortunately.

    Thanks will take a look.

Yeah, I've looked at Reaktor, it is a rabbit hole.
I've tried Breaktweaker, and I didnt like the GUI as you mentioned. Perhaps I'll need to give it another try. Thanks.

Yeah, Vice is pretty good. Not as sophisticated as I want it to be - integrated FX , no REX support. But I like the simplicity of the program.
And which version of Cubase are you talking about, 9, pro/artist/elements? I tried the 32 bit version of Cubase a long time ago. I enjoyed the program and it's mangling capabilities for drum loops. And there was Loopmasher, but I never really understoond quite welll.

On a side note, there is Soundforge?, Audacity, Renoise, Redux, Kontakt, which get praised for it's Sampling abilities. They seem quite good for pure sample manipulation.

    Keep the suggestions coming, thanks!

Love Dr. Octo Rex. I kept Reason just to be able to use it. I will pay dearly for a stand alone version and plugin of it.

Nice, Liveslice is quite capable. DtBlkFX, looks nice aswel. While I was browsing for that plugin on youtube I came across this: perhaps a bit over the top, but still interesting:

Convolver VST? Never heard that before, morph between different samples, rather interesting

Check his vids, and the store, most of the plugs are free :D

Yes, It is probably the most well rounded Sampler of them all.I mean drawing/glue waveforms so your drums sit well together is something quite remarkable(I think only Renoise is capable of this). Still find Kontakt a bit cluttered though :(

I don't think i'll ever get away from Sound Forge.
Easy to use and has real time processing.

Kontakt can glue waveforms? That sounds interesting. I wonder if that's just the same as Cubase's fade betweens.

    • zplane retune (transpose & re-scale)
    • cableguys volumeshaper (sometimes u just need a gate)
    • accusonus regroover (can dissect loops)
granted, I don't use either much

Regroover pro and midi trigger the layers using the loop sliders will give you some excellent results that kinda sound familiar but are still farr from the source loop.

My fave is egoist with all the randomize options for some totally re-written loops or you can do the straight stuff easily too.

Both are really quick and intuitive. You can resample in your daw and drag the results straight back in too.
