Hey guys, sup? Is it worth buying a Presonus Faderport? Even if only for automation or things like that

    What do y'all think?

I just got a Faderport 8 after trying quite a few control surfaces and it's the first one I've actually engaged with thanks mainly to the fader automation. I use as many as 5 DAW's and it locks into each of them with no problem.

I had one for a bit. Never worked, messed around with PS support for a while, they couldn't fix it and told me to take it back to the store where I bought it, so I did and got a refund.

If it would have worked, it could have been fun and useful as travel surface, especially for those final passes where tactile and responsive small gain changes, or send levels really help polish a mix and a tactile fader can not be beaten.

Honestly at that price point, if the store you buy from has a decent return policy I see no downside. Quality control has always been touch and go on PS hardware, but if you get one that works you can generally expect it to last at least a good 5-10 years if you treat it right at 130 bucks - it costs less than taking the old lady out to a fancy restaurant on her birthday.

I've got mine almost 5 years ago. Couldn't imagine working without it now and when it dies I'm going to buy a new one.
Works great for me, especially for writing automation and punch-in recording. Super useful when vocal talent is in and he/she can start recording on their own when ready.
Works great with Studio One, even greater with Reaper (extra features added to the driver written by few Reaper users) and now Adobe Audition CC 2017 is supported too. Finally :)
I'd say go for it because it's great bang for the buck. If you don't find it useful in your workflow you can always sell it easily :winker:

  6. The Faderport 8 is a game changer when used with Studio One.

I am having some issues with live. Sometimes the fader would lock to a channel no matter what I did, I had to press the next channel 10000 times. Also, sometimes the 5-channel leap would collapse the channels.

The fader feels very good. But the buttons are hard.

Bear in mind you'll need a power supply to get the fader to work. I remember there was a very similar unit that worked simply through usb.

I use a faderport for years. It really speed up my workflow. Great little item not only for automation writing.

faderport is awesome in conjunction with studio one. You can even automate plugin parameters with its 100mm high resolution fader !

I had one for years and sold it recently. Using a Nektar p1 now but would definitely have considered the new multi Faderport had it come out sooner. I never had a problem with my faderport using pc/cubase but know alot of guys who have and Presonus has notoriously bad support.

Just ordered a used one for $69. Hope it works well with Sonar. I've got the Mackie Ultramix, and it's great for recording Automation, I just wanted something with a flying fader. I think the Faderport will have better resolution than the old Mackie as well. I'll report back here with how I feel about it after I get it and put it through it's paces if you'd like.

Thanks for the info mate. What do you say about Nektar? Is it a great controller?

I replaced my Nektar for the Faderport 8. Faderport is alive. Nektar just sits there in a coma. Gives no feedback. Anybody in Sydney Australia who wants a Nektar, it's yours for $50.
