The most similar are Ample Sound basses hands down. You can edit strums, riffs,... you can even throw them a guitar pro tab and they play it without blinking.

Try ABP v2.5.0 (Fender Rock Precision Bass) from the sister/brother/father site AZ. The riff feature only exists starting with v2.5, but the keygen probably works if you have any Ample Sound official trial installer (In fact I was going to test this tomorrow).

But ABP is a very versatile one, it has picked and fingered mode.

i already have abp 2 with riffer but i dont like it, it's the same basic midi editor, the slides are poor and the articulation don't chain correctly

It's true that the sound of Ample Sound electric guitars/basses is so-so, but in terms of features they rock.

There is none, as far as i know.
Ample Sound exporting to MIDI once the riff/groove is done , and using a better sounding Kontakt bank ?

Here are my fav bass :
    Orange tree Cherry Bass
    Scarbee/NI
    Shreddage 2
    ImpactSoundworks Shreddage Bass Picked Edition
Dan Dean Signature Bass Collection KONTAKT version

Steinberg's Virtual Bassist and Ueberschall's Liquid Instruments are discontinued. Cakewalk still has the Studio Instruments bundle with a bass guitar. You can drag and drop the grooves from the plug-in to your DAW as MIDI (at least with Sonar it does work this way) and edit them there (and of course output to a different VSTi if you like).

it has slide time, it's a good thing that ample sound doesn't have

That's something I've in mind, but to be productive a MIDI articulations converter has to be used and it's not a trivial thing.

@Xupito you are right. Mapping articulations is going to be time consuming on complex lines.
But if a simple "play and forget" is needed, using a third party generator (Ample Sound, Virtual Bassist..) on Kontakt/Trilian can save the day ;)

To me, anyway, to get a fast and furious result, you need to use loops played by real ppl.
You can anyway cut loops, pitch them... to match the song. But it become time consuming.

I don't see a single soft to be fast, get articulations right AND mix grooves at the same time.

I remember I was so fascinated by Steinberg's Virtual Bassist back when it came out many years ago, such a sense of nostalgia there.

As for the topic, bass grooves are really simple and don't really need some strumming or groove library IMHO. If you really can't figure out what to have your bass do and don't want to simply play the root note for the whole bar, just grab some of Truefire's courses on bass guitar and watch them and you should be able to produce believable bass lines with any library. You can always take songs you like and filter out everything above 200 Hz or so to just listen to what the bass player is doing to get ideas also. If all else fails just play the root, or fifth, or a combination of the two, of the chord repetitively as eighth notes and you are pretty much doing what 90% of bass players do in just about every song.

As for libraries I never really was that fond of Ample Sound's basses and still after all these years go back to my Ilya Efimov libraries.

  15. Rob Papen's SubBoomBass is the nearest I can think of.

Almost all of those things like EZdrummer just use midi sequences. If you want to edit grooves.. load any bass instrument you want and put midi files on the track/s. They can be midi files labeled for piano, sax, guitar.. it doesn't matter. If you're not a skilled keyboard or bass player you can use melodies from midi files, catch an idea from something, arrange and edit them how you want.

At the moment nothing come close to EZdrummer/Superior in terms of ease of use.

As someone said, Toontracks might be missing a huge opportunity: If they were able to do for the bass what they already did for the drums...
