Hey all, hoping someone can help me out here. As the title says, I'm not getting any audio when I switch to my Windows Audio device in Studio One. I normally use ASIO4ALL, but at times switch to Windows Audio so I can watch tutorial videos and go along with them. I have absolutely no idea what's causing this problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both my soundcard and Studio One, but no dice. I also have a Alesis io2 interface which works fine through ASIO, but nothing through windows audio. Oh, I should mention that I can still hear YouTube and such fine when I use the windows device, and there's definitely sound playing in Studio One, it's just somehow not getting to my speakers. I'm using the latest version of Studio One x64 on Windows 10 x64.

I thank you in advance for any help!

do you have allow aplications to take exclusive control of this device under properties /advance in windows playback

have you got exclusive mode ticked in studio one under audio setup/control panel
to the right of audio device where you selected windows audio

I would check out a program called Virtual Audio Cable, just Google it and it is the first result. I believe you can use that to route your software return, the audio you hear in windows, to a virtual audio input that you can then monitor while in Studio One. That way you wont have to switch devices whilst in your DAW.

As an additional thought, check the routing in your driver software for your audio interface. Make sure you are sending the software return to your main outputs.

@audioplg I have all my exclusive controls off on both Studio One, and my Windows device. Tried with all on, but still, no sound. That was my first thing to check, but neither have worked. Thank you, though for that.

@C7, That is really damn helpful, I'll check that out tomorrow! Bit late here now, and I'm off my music for the night. But I will certainly have a play about with that! And yep, all's routed correctly. I seem to have this problem after the latest SO update. Before then, all was working fine, but had huge latency issues. They've gone with the new update, but I can't use my Windows device anymore. I think I'm going to have to try that Virtual Audio Cable, see how that goes, and wait for another update for SO.

Thank you both for your help!

If nothing else works, check out "O Deus Asio Link Pro", it might solve your problems. I use it myself and, while being somewhat complicated, when you learn how to set it up it works great.

You can search for it on sister site.

Hope things work out for you.

I was having this same issue. Switching the audio engine to 32bit instead of 64 bit got it sorted.

Hey @farao, great tip, thanks for pointing. I like to use Pro Tools like Audacity, recording Windows sound (without running patch cables from back to front of PC) and of course ran into the same issue. That "O Deus Asio Link Pro" with its unsightly interface seems to mop the f*ck*p slate clean.

I think their new audio engine is still a bit buggy in terms of the "exclusiv mode". I have a problem too with it. On my 2 notebooks if i use my interafce with studio one and switch from s1 to another audio aplication like a youtube video, there is no audio at the video.

If i minimize studio one in the taskbar the youtube audio and studio one audio plays. If i minimize studio one with the minimize button - studio one audio stops palying. If i simply change the window by clikcing the aplication in the taskbar, studio one audio stops or the other audio aplication stops - random stop. I have to minimize studio one in the taskbar by simply clicking it to get simultan audio.

Now that i know this its not a big deal anymore. But till i found this out, i went nearly crazy I tell you. And no its not my driver or computer. Tested with a RME babyface and a motu interface. On a windows 7 and window 10 Notebook.

@farao, I realise I started this thread 2 months ago, but I've only just got to a point where I needed to use my WDM driver inside of Studio One, and only just installed ASIO Link Pro. I have so much backed up that I need to install, and been busy with other projects, hence it taking forever. But God DAMN! That program worked a treat! It's even cut my latency in half! Thank you so much for the suggestion of that program, dude! I feel like an idiot for not installing and using it sooner. Live and learn.

And thank you to all others that have posted on this. I'm sorry I didn't reply. I've not had any notifications about other messages. -_-

@TW, it has to be a bug, dude. I've not had anything as annoying as that happen, Studio One just simply won't recognise my WDM driver. Sounds like a right pain in the arse, though! I'd definitely recommend using this ASIO Link Pro as farao suggested. It's sorted out a few issues for me that I didn't even realise were present. Especially cutting my latency down. That's always been a big deal for me. I don't have the best of computers, Windows 10 pro x64, I3 processor, 8gb Ram, crappy 512mg graphics card, and the amount of stuff I put into my tracks is ridiculous. I swear I can hear my system screaming in torment at times... But yeah, this has proper sorted a lot of things out for me. I can believe it was driving you crazy. I've uninstalled and reinstalled programs and drivers countless times to try and solve my issue. But yep, definitely a Studio One thing.

The interface is damn unsightly, no doubt about that! But, man. It's so handy!
