I'm eager to install this for APFS but obviously if it's going to mess with any of the software I have installed then I'll wait, anyone tried it yet and can report back?

in my experience OS X betas were never as bad as people made out. altho i have never gone in at beta 1.
my old mac is too old to take high/sierra so i can't test it. not going beta on my main machine!

I waited until March to install Sierra, so I'll probably be installing High Sierra next March, assuming word on the street isn't "It makes everything you installed on your computer instantly obsolete! Enjoy spending the rest of 2018 waiting for upgrades!"

I just upgraded to Sierra on my mid 2012 MBP. Seems to run everything fine. Firefox runs slower however... Not sure if I should do the High beta... Worried my older MBP might not be able to handle anything here forward with the DSP required by the OS.... I wish Apple would just release an embedded version of Sierra or El Capitan so we can run just the core apps we need for music production and live performance...

Is there any info out there yet on how APFS will interact with NTFS drives? I'm thinking in terms of making it easier to switch external NTFS drives between macOS and Windows without needing something like Paragon or using exFAT format.

There is no connection between them. The possibility of reading non-Apple drives is strictly macOS-based.

If you know a thing or two in macOS' Terminal app, you can make any NTFS drive read-writeable (without resorting to Paragon or other apps) by editing a file called fstab
    Details here: http://macdrug.com/write-ntfs-drive-macos-sierra/

Yeah, dabbled before but got too pissed off with corruptions. Even when using Paragon and dedicated tools to support NTFS read and write I couldn't avoid getting corruptions and messing up files on the NTFS drives so never trusted it since.

    Here
"Still" on 10.11, myself, and feel perfectly-situated. Only a couple applications I've encountered have required 10.12. I've found that every-other Mac OS version is transitional, alternating with a perfected version of that. Therefore, I might have to install High Sierra on another partition and see which currnet-version software works or not. Apple shouldn't a) release OS updates so frequently nor b) until the bugs and compatibilities are worked-out. We're all beta-testers.

Apple is going crazy with new system update coming out way to frequently making our mac's obsolete, our systems fragile and lots of incompatibilities with our software and plug-ins.
Looks like they are desperate to sell new computers.
I am still on Mac 10.8.5 using Tiamo's patch to make it work on my old 2006 MacPro.
It's my main music computer and I will not change it until it dies having invested too much money to upgrade it over the years.
I always used Mac's since they came out but recently been questioning myself if I am going to be so faithful in the future.
Apple has to get their shit together and make new mac pro's that are affordable, upgradable and reliable like they used to be or they will crash and burn or only sell ipod's and iphone's and loose a whole segment of the music and graphic industry.
Maybe they don't care anymore.. everybody only wan't to make money for their shareholders...The world is going bunkers.

they wont make anything "affordable", especially products with the "pro" tag.

if a 2006 mac pro is still fast enough for your work, you can get a used cheese grater 2009+, they are very affordable and reliable just like yours while having way more juice.

the 2013 trashcans are nice for Audio but still they don't drop in price, they will once the modular mac pro comes out
but that will take another 1 or 2 years.

i personally couldn't be happier with where Apple is going, high sierra has everything i wished for.

have you watched the WWDC ? i think everyone is served.

Thanks for the WWDC, but an Imac pro for 5000.$ u.s. starting price!!..
    I won't be a customer as I can't afford that.
Bought a new Imac before my used MacPro and it died on me and same thing for my sister.
To expensive to have it repaired so went to the recycle bin.
So no more consumer Imac for me.
I will eventually go for a used cheese grated 2009+ as you suggested that can handle the new OS if that's possible.
Or go up to 10.12 and stay there for a couple of years as it would be much better than my actual Mac Pro.

You are talking about the modular Mac pro ??.. what will that be?...7,000.$ to get one!!.

people who can afford this iMac Pro will go for Apple care as-well

every mac that runs sierra now, will run high sierra as well.

the modular mac pro will come without a 5k screen the iMac has, so its gonna be cheaper (i guess)
both will go over 15k fully loaded for sure.

today, for 5000 u get a maxed out cheese grater,
and for 700-1000 u get a nice starting point where you can upgrade to your needs
just make sure to get at least the 4.1 2009 model

I was just looking today at used macbook pro on ebay and I can get a pretty decent machine for not that much money.
I was thinking that I could have the macbook hooked up to my 37" TV I am using now as a monitor through HDMI.
Network/slave my actual Macpro 3Ghz, 8 cores 24 GB ram, 250Gb SSD drive with Vienna ensemble pro 6 on it driving my plug-ins.
This combination would give me a Macbook Pro with Sierra or High Sierra installed on it for portability..
    What do you think?
Thanks a lot for your help and suggestions...very appreciated.

I installed the public demo a couple of days agon on a MacMini Mid 2011. It runs well, but I had issues while installing. I needed to install some sort of dev built download enabler or something so that the MacOS installer would work. Logic and all plugins are working fine. Dylib Patch works as well. Firefox seems to be a bit snappier than before (still not as fast as Safari, though). But I think it's not fully optimized yet. There are some glitches witch font display at times. But no crashes or any major malfunctions yet.

You're really not missing anything by skipping Sierra, unless you're intrigued by the idea of having Siri on your computer (I don't own an iPhone and the first thing I did after upgrading my MBP was to turn Siri off). Everything else more or less runs about the same as it does on El Capitan.
