Traditional music theory works fine just in slow tempos. In faster tempos, groove dominates.

    Probably you mean your way(s).

You are not in any way qualified to say such things as you are in no way a producer or a modern producer or a music critique for that matter. You keep banging with how much music you listen but as a result all you talk is nonsense. And that's because you don't actually listen the music, you are just hearing it.

As every good musician knows, the theory of relativity replaces music theory
when a tempo nears the speed of light and drugs start kicking in.

Foster, music theory is just music theory. You can either learn it, or don't. Please stop trying to come up with new mathematical and philosophical equations for it. I do like discussing different philosophical approaches to music, but to use the days philosophical whims pertaining to theory is just foolish.

  10. I found that the opposite to be true, namely that traditional music theory works better when the music is ripping along at a hellish pace. The demarcation point is exactly 238.2849 bpm (only with the tools today at our disposal is accuracy like this possible, we are truely blessed). As soon as the cadence drops below this magic number, the human nervous system begins to sync with the beat and automatically starts to groove along with it. Anything over this magic number and the body ceases its ability to follow along, the muscles and sinew relaxed and at ease, until, BANG, human intelligence begins in earnest to intellectualize, the body loosing any and all ability to jack into this primal state of being and finally collapses into heap on the floor, the mind drowning in a sea of miasma, turning inward until once again the song slips below the magic number. Really.

I always used to bash Foster a lot for his incoherent rhetoric, but I came to realize he must be legitimately mentally handicapped.

The best place for criticism is in front of your mirror. Anger without power is folly. Don’t judge a man until you have walked a mile in his boots. First post something, then open your mouth.

Here is a funny rant by Mike Verta (a film composer) on music theory for those of you who haven't had the privilege to watch his masterclasses. This is from his Orchestration 1 Masterclass where someone asks him if he is going to do a theory course.

This is the source of your problem: making music, playing an instrument, putting down intention in a tune is SO MUCH MORE than drawing a few notes, all at the same velocity in a midi grid.....man, you could not be further from what the essence of music is about if you persist in this belief you have. Do you feed on vitamin pills only instead of eating organic food too??? Do you have a robot as a life partner and make love to...it??? When you're cold, do you run a video of a fire place and imagine that those flames offer you heat??? Foster, you're cut off so far from what is real that even if you'd stumble over it and almost broke your neck on it...you'd still not be able to recognize it! For the first time in all your tremendously stupid posts....I feel deeply sorry for you and the state of poverty you've reached, is beyond imagination.

    To paraphrase George Bernard Shaw

    He who can, does
He who cannot, blows nothing but hot air to hide the fact

I don't support insults like mentally handicapped, that is just nasty, but you would do yourself an immense favour if you actually presented us with a complete, full-length, finished track. Nothing wrong with discussing music theory but if you prove that you have no musical abilities yourself then it's pretty much a waste of time.

All of us have different experimentations to master something. Mine are a bit strange. This is the reason for all my threads.

One day I was a staunch supporter of music theory and in every sentence, I was voicing my beliefs about it but after listening to diverse genres (particularly electronic), it lost its flesh gradually. In electronic, you deal with sounds and processing on them more than notes. You can do anything with sounds other than simply adding well-known FX that usually adherent disciples of traditional music makers do.

For my experimentations, music theory is such as an interloper. I usually try to carry off it but at the end I'm not really able to find a suitable place for it during my processes.:dunno:

  19. Theory, schmeory, I believe that you really need to just record in some fashion what is in your head, be it noise that you record from real sources, hacked from a sample CD or anything else that you can get your hands on. If you need to use a piano roll, fine, whatever it takes to get it from mind to matter, it makes not one iota of difference. You don't even need to learn the rules to break them, mine is your get out of jail free card, use it already, damn the man to save the empire, screw this endless question and debate catastrophe and take a big whopping bite of what is already on your plate and stop the second, third and endless guesses that is nailing your foot to the floor as this endless round and round only serves to make you dizzy, and soon you'll be blowing chunks all over the forum...don't puke on your shoes. Get going.

I have to ask dear mods to get back the dumb button. At least it would relieve some intolerable pressures on lovely commentators here from my side.:bleh:
