Cycling ’74, creators of Max and Max For Live, today announced that they have been acquired by Ableton.

The companies have ‘shared DNA’, with Ableton Live originating in a Max patch and about a decade of collaboration on Max For Live.

I don't see why that should happen. Ableton have always had quite solid product politics for years.
And they do listen to their user base.
They're not as stupid as some other companies adding features that only their management thinks are great.

Bitwig is still trying to become the next ableton actually if you recall their roots.
If they would get rid of that damn java container I might actually take them seriously.

Anyway thanks for the news @saltwater . Apparently it's concentration time in the audio industry. Sometimes integration is good (I mean Acid and Sound Forge are getting a second life in a company, Magix, that now cares about them, which wasn't the case with Sony anymore) because it makes sense, sometimes it sucks big time (Camel Audio and Apple, FXpansion with Roli so far it sucks big time).
Here Max 4 Live is such a second nature to Ableton, it seems to make sense it might work, be better integrated.

I wonder what's gonna happen with the rest of Cycling '74 though....

Yeah, complete integration would be nice. In ableton 10 slanted for release when? 2020 maybe?

 

Bitwig Studio comes with it's own Java virtual machine which is just used to do the gui, theres no need to install any other java.

 

@Willum Really? I couldnt get it working. Let me try the official demo then and see. It wouldn't see my FW asio soundcard before and the fix was to install java. So I gave up

 

Well, if they don't want to become bankrupt, they need to do it this fall. Btw they started a summer sale.

 

Thats usually a precursor for the DAW companies to announce a new version. Lets only hope

i can install them for fl studio without taking 8 days to sort through effect and instrument now!!
