Any multiband saturator should do it. Fab Filter makes a nice one called Saturn. I use it to add the sizzle back to my dub/wub bass shots. All the previous processing in my bass shots chain, (especially the vocoder) deadens the highs a bit. I use the high band in Saturn to bring the sizzly tops back.

I actually do a freq split on my bass group and leave the very high parts out of the main chain and compress them separately from the mids and lows. But then hit the whole group with the hi band saturation and more compression to help glue all the different sounds back together. Lol at people saying dubstep wubs sound like farts. Trying to make all those different farts sound like thay came from the same butt is an artform, lol

What's the question? Do you want to know what of your plugins behave so?
Try to switch plugins one by one. When you find, see what of the features is ON
Maybe dithering with old skool noiseshaping style?
Or list some used plugins there.

Waves Aphex Aural Exciter .... I imagine any gentle saturation will give you color and some harmonics up there... from brutal distortion plugins, to simple tube modelers etc...

 

Check out bx_saturator. It is specially designed for, I think, what you are asking.

 

Does the D361a do that? I know it adds air very pleasantly.

 

@digitaldragon For me, the D361 adds more body and weight to the mix than air. I dont really push it that hard though. I leave both knobs at 12 oclock but gain stage it till it sounds pleasing to my ears. Its always in the green on the meters on the plug. Then I try all the buttons for the different settings until I like what I hear. But also know this. Its in a chain with 10+ other plugs all just giving a hint of their mojo. Its never soloed. None of them really adding too much of their character. Well except the lurssen console and the limiters. Theyre working tough.

Great thanks I have to test these plugins, I didn't remember I had Fabfilter Saturn and Bx Saturator :p, too many plugins don't help sometimes to pick the right one during a mixing session

 

@subGENRE, I understand, it's like running the TE-100. Even if you're not boosting or cutting. I use it on vocals. Haven't tried it on the 2 bus ever. I'll have to see what it does. Thanks for the tip!

 

Yep, the in out switch on the TE-100 engages just the eq. Not the bypass. Its right after the D316A in the chain. I read the manual, lol
Right now though, Im really loving charly and what its doing to my buses. My chains are about to get revamped. Im drooling over that caribou filter plugin they make. That would replace 2 plugs in my chains

Why don´t you try XLN Audio RC20 Retro Color. I think it´s special for this task.

Trash2 is cool indeed. In the same realm (do your disto shape yourself) Bluecat destructor is a nice addition. They included a dynamic part that allows you to blend in the distortion ina very dynamic way.
Plugin alliance in addition to bx sat offers other cool tools with things like Vertigo VSM3, and Unfiltered Audio Dent (disto bitcrusher, etc)/indent (saturation).
You also have the lovely Fxpansion Maul.
D16 has Devastor2.
Fracture and powersag from AirWindows.

Try using Absynth's multiple oscillators as audio inputs. Each oscillator can be set to stereo giving you 6 inputs (from the same source if you want). Each has it's own filters and mods and HighPass Filters up to 22500Hz. And a completely separate FX section with simultaneous HP/LP filters. And those envelopes. Oh man, those envelopes.

If you understand this:

You can saturate your hights the way you like with every standard DAW software. Just add a saturator or subtile distortion to the compressed high frequencies and mix them in.
