I want to set up an anonymised email address in order to send email without my identity being uncovered.

Anybody know of any free providers where you dont need to give any personal details like name, address, alternatve email or phone number or have to pay for it that vould also uncover identity?

Essentially I want to submit FOI requests and possibly a complaint but due to my line of work do not want my identity being uncovered at present so want to set up a completely anonymous email identity.

Erm. There's a load (at least 2 =) of plugins for Firefox, just check & choose. Or just use VPNGate? Or pick & choose depending on features / cost?

True, but Tor recommends not enabling plugins as Firefox plugins can identify your IP apparently.

no such thing ..I mean - if it works, it works (doesn't matter if free or expensive as hell)

also, with any VPN you have to do your homework on your browser. the main things:
    - no 3rd party cookies!
    - no flash
    - disable WebRTC
    - disable WebGL (not so much to do with your IP, but..)
    - if your VPN doesn't support dual-stack Internet connectivity, stay away from IPv6
    - ...
(google on how to disable those)

you can do a test how airtight your protection is with services like doileak.com but AFAIK it can be owned by a 3 letter agency

a (some) VPN list (and features that services offer):
    VPN Services

last: don't do anything really stupid - it's just a layer of privacy protection.
    ...

Tor - not very secure (!) But even if u pay ur VPN by cash, ur still putting ur trust in them that they don't have ur data. But, y'know, plugins are free, easy to setup & are limited 2 ur browser. VPNs (ie on VPNgate) take a lil bit of setup, but are more secure. It's all relative, tho.
