Dude, the dracus from Orange Tree is an 8 string metal beast. And if you use the clean version and dirty it up yourself with nebula or amp sims you can get just about any tone you could imagine.

 

I agree with what a few other people on this thread have said: I'm the kind of person who likes performing all my instruments myself (even though I don't play real drums, bass, guitar, violin, etc.), but I certainly couldn't beat the sound of an actual electric guitar being played by a decent guitarist.
