    Hello guys,

I have recently finished this track, I want your opinion about it and I'm looking for advice to improve it, with the help of this community I managed to learn a lot of stuff that helped me so much improving my skills (but still needs to learn more).

I don't know what to label this track genre, I tried experimenting and combining several styles, from pop/triphop to retro electronica, hoping I could find a vocal to fit in.

I hope you guys will enjoy it, and I'll be waiting for your critics/advice !

Sounds really quite muddy in the lower end, I think you need to do some more eq'ing, a technique i picked up recently was eq'ing with my eyes closed, really helped. All the sounds are very up front and therefore it lacks space, I like the sounds and vibe but don't find enough of a story progression, it just sounds like a 16 bar loop. try slowly fading some elements in and out. Listen to the movie Drive soundtrack for reference.

Nice vibes here, good job. :)

    Problems I'm hearing :

-Sub line / Bass line too weak (gain/EQ)
-A bit too airy (lack of mid signal/mid freq gain/too much air region)
-Muted Drums is an interesting choice but I think they still need much more volume/dynamics (keep the muted tone effect but just bring it up in the mix)
-No need to squash this kind of music, a dynamic mix (from the start, with very subtle/less comp on individual tracks) might work better, same for the master, keep it breathy and dynamic

    Possible solutions :

-Try level up the bass/sub information, after that make sure 0-150hz region (maybe just 100Hz for this particular track) is mono
-Check your phase and your mid/side signal with some meter, then tweak mid/side accordingly, I have the feeling the track lacks mid and have a bit too much of sides.
-Just level up your Drums, it can still sound chill with pleasantly quiet tones but stronger in levels.
-Keep it dynamic from tracking/sampling to mixing and even in mastering (-12db RMS is good target for this track I believe, maybe a bit more in the last strong moments to add spice but don't go too loud it won't serve your track/mix.)

fabfilter pro q2 on master track with it play you can see frequency response, now A to B with a reference track you can see if your slope is off or if the sub bass is off there some things going on but I cant tell want you wanted to do on purpose or not. (dreamscape type thing)

you can build up a thickness to your sounds with layering of analog modeling plugins each doing barely anything stack a bunch because you want your transients same thickness throughout a sound as it changes

think of it as a science, yes there are creative decisions in there and many choices for you, but if you approach it as a science you can get your head in a place to see the objective parts are like say a spectrum analyzer is a meter like a volume meter , pop that thing on your master fader. give yourself the ability to see what is happening regarding frequency response like you would a volume meter hitting a number with information. find the areas that are scientific, ways you can use tools to help yourself out. ( just dont forget the creative parts are there too haha)

Good tips man. You know you can upload pic right to your post without hosting them.

@elias2tife Get some tracks of similar pro music to reference in your eq/spectrum. You can even eq match them. I find the ozone eq works better than pro q2 for this (for me anyways). Go for .flac ones if you can find them stay away from mp3s and youtube rips. I learned that the hard way, I was matching lossy codec hi-cuts lololol. Looking at the pics that mmj posted I would want to boost around 40hz to 60hz for this type of music and get those rumbling lows and maybe a little cut somewhere between 100-200 to get the mud out. But the proper way to do it would be to eq the instruments and sounds while your making/mixing the track to clear out the mud beforehand
Also I saturate the hell out of my lows to get the harmonics. Im currently in love with the (kush)sly-fi plugs for these duties. Well in mixing that is. In the mastering, I hit it with tapes and tubes to get the higher order harmonics

@subGENRE i have always used a site like Tinypic to post pics here.......do you mean I can just do it directly from my computer? How so? Thanks :)

@elias2tife your sound cloud isn't showing up for me. Is that my end ?

@Beth and @MMJ2017 use the upload file button on the bottom of the reply box right next to the reply button. As long as it doesn't exceed the size limitations and is an accepted format, it will give to the option to insert the pic in to your post as full size or as a clickable thumbnail.

I don't mind it all, thanks a lot. If you want I could send you a clean Wav file (after I do some mix cleaning) so you could mess a bit with it.

That is what I would do to it(starting from the last track you posted , and not having multi tracks), to get it to its final copy. (just my own perspective)
    1. get the transients the same width throughout the entire frequency response.
    2. bring in tiny atomic level fine grain detail
    3. add three dimensional qualities and stereo imaging to enhance the "dream state" quality of the track
    4. balance the frequency response to a standard slope
    5. normal mastering routines to get clarity and volume levels to that of normal tracks.
(just in case link did not show up before)

I really appreciate your effort; Idk what's the going but it's sounding extremly loud and clicking sounds, I'm sure it's due to quality loss since you're mastering an already mastered (not once but twice on the same file)..
