    Brainworx bx_subfilter

Polishing your mix’s low end can be tricky. Bass DI tracks can sound mushy, and kick tracks can lose their “pop.” Sometimes everything below 100Hz can become such an undifferentiated soup of noise that you just don’t know where to start! Start here: The bx_subfilter is just the ticket for adding clarity and definition to tracks that have troublesome low frequencies. There are lots of expensive and complicated EQ plugins out there, but when it comes to shaping your low end, the bx_subfilter is unique for its ease and simplicity. With just a few quick adjustments to its four-knob interface, you can breathe new life into those 808s that have been muddying your mix.

    Features

    • Tight Punch knob implements a resonant high pass filter that’s especially formulated for cutting problem frequencies in bass-heavy tracks
    • Resonance selector applies three peak settings to the filter – Low, High and Extreme – for accentuating punch while taming low-end rumble
    • Low End control applies a post-Tight Punch fixed bandpass filter, to achieve that perfect frequency balance
    • Input/output gain controls for level matching and preventing clipping

The link works but the regular Plugin-Alliance site isn't updated yet I guess. If you look carefully the link starts with 'dev' and it's also not possible to log in with the account info from the regular site.

Thanks for the heads up on this being free. Quick question I know there is some trick or workaround for using legit and not so legit plugin alliance stuff together but can somebody refresh my memory. I think using a removable drive was the way?

    Thanks

For some reason this just tickles me. It's like one of those infomercials. "Don't waste time with those complicated, dangerous grills; use our patented plate warmer"

Yup ! You have to plug a USB stick, then, when you activate your plugins, you can choose on which device you want to store your license. (Be careful to uncheck "Activate all my licenses")
It worked great for me on Mac, until I upgrade to Pro Tools 12 as AAX are not cracked yet... :(
I had my legit licences on USB and the "Not so legit" (lol) on my computer.
But I buy them every now and then when there's a good deal... (The Lindell PEX500 is 19$ this week)

I'm going to tell you three things:

    1) I don't use any of the Brainworx plugins because I tested them with VST analyser and they seem to be just your average DSP bunch. Not worth paying for at least and certainly not worth paying for the amount of money they are asking for. They go for "if we put the price up people will think they are paying for top-notch plugins. They are not bad, but they are not top-notch, mind you.
    2) I don't use any of their plugins because there are so many better ones.
    3) Have a nice day!

A really good quote: In a mix, nobody can hear your screen. - Chris Johnson [Airwindows]

    Cheers! :headbang:

They have regular sales and significant discounts on (custom) bundles. I bought many plugins from them at excellent prices and to me they rank up there with the best. VSM3 and HG2 are gems.

They rank up there with the Waves, Steven Slate, Softube, Nomad Factory and Arturia. You interpret it the way you like it. I'll just quote Chris Johnson of Airwindows one more time today: "In a mix, nobody can hear your screen."

And then there is another quote that comes to mind: "If it sounds good, it is good." which is I think Quincy Jones' one

I'm old school. I have a different taste. Or ears.

    Have a great day!

Sure, we all have different tastes. I, for one, don't like Waves, they are not what they used to be 15 years ago. Nomad Factory is out of question (of course IMO). Slate is ok, VMR is an interesting workflow alternative (the microphone system is their strongest thing IME and the only one I would really use on a daily basis). Softube killed it with the Chandler stuff on UAD. Amazing plugins that reach where only Acustica stuff did until recently.

Regarding PA, I could mix like forever with Equilibrium and VSM3 on every track. This combo beat not once some of my favourite Acqua tools. HG-2 is a revelation, bx_console is gorgeous (I still have no idea what trick they did to make that compressor so smooth yet effective, it always puzzles me). PA's recent releases are just getting better and better. I also test plugins extensively with analyzers, I have specific projects set up just for these tests and I can tell you, somebody there really knows how to design algorithms. Aliasing is pushed lower, I think other developers (except Kush, who also lately seems to have found a really clever dsp guy) should take notice how it's done.

Maybe you are refering to Brainworx early stuff, which I admit, I was not a fan of. But since the Millenia emulations something good happened there and it's only getting better.

This new little plugin is, to me, something that the VOG never succeeded to be. I really needed a plugin like this and I think they were a bit high to give it for free, but that's great for us.

    To each their own!

You can't share it. One needs to create an account on PA website and authorize it on his own machine.

Well, bx Solo is a really useful utility plugin and bx digital is hands down an outstanding surgical M/S EQ for the Mixbus. It's a straight digital EQ without any colorization and that's good at this stage in the mix. It does what it is suppossed to do really well. In its category it's pretty much top notch as far as the feature set and usability is concerned. What does a VST Analyzer tell you about that?

The rest of the bx Plugins I know are really not that great. Vertigo VSC-2 is okay, but evrything else concerning dynamics and anallog modelling doesn't convnce me. Stay away from their Limiter!
