Love the MIDI part. Having a little experience giving up on the MIDI guitar concept after the early Roland offerings, I was skeptical but this VST converts guitar audio polyphonically so lightlning fast piano and bass lines are possible.

The guitar part of MIDIguitar 2 absolutely sucks. WTF. After the wonderful MIDI conversion they tried to incorporate a cheesy guitar process my old J-station would slay. It is the most clunkiest non versatile POS I have every seen.

A classic case of not knowing when to stop adding shit to a wonderful program.

We all do it. Over process/produce our mixes........but come on Jamorigin!

I should mention the one bright spot on the guitar side. There is an effect called DEEP EXPRESSOR which is similar to the Electro Harmonix pedals where the guitar tone can sound like you just stepped on a piano's 'sustain' pedal or completely void of sustain.
    It has potential.

Yeah but they finally got the MIDI part down pat. Who cares about the guitar part? You can mix the MIDI and guitar and so, say you decide to run your guitar through S-Gear and mix it with MIDI? Might be some possibilities?
I haven't screwed around with the ver 2 enough to know but on the ver 1 you could use any amp plug in you wanted. I'm having a great time just screwing around with the Korg M-1 plug.
Now...I wait patiently for those smarter than myself to 'fix' ver 2.

Compared to version 1 it requires almost no tweaking of the guitar part. It's almost plug-and-play. Very fast and reliable.

They've also changed the GUI completely. I like the new "modern" skin.

    Lots of new useful features.

I played the standalone demo and couldn't find anything I didn't like.

@zizi I don't know how you could compare Melodyne to Midi Guitar 2....or 1 for that matter. Its an apples to automobiles comparison.
As far as the improvements of ver 2 over 1....my biggest impression is the fact that you don't have to spend time tweaking the sensitivity. Somehow they've integrated that into the product. In ver. 1 if you didn't do a lot of tweaking it sounded like a train wreck. Once it was adjusted it was fine but the initial setup was a pain. Version 2 is fine right out of the box, so to speak.
R2R probably abandoned fixing vesion 2 because the developers dicked around with it for so long. My understanding was that it wasn't going to get 'fixed' until it was out of the BETA stage and its been in BETA almost 2 years. I would have lost interest too if I didn't think it had the great potential it does.
I don't think a lot of folks understand how monumental an achievement this thing is. MIDI from analog is one thing but polyphonic MIDI from analog through software only is totally unheard of until now. If I had a hundred bucks just sitting around I would gladly pay it but, being retired and just getting out of the hospital with a 13,000 dollar bill over my head...it ain't gonna happen.
So....I wait and hope that R2R will take an interest someday.

I've been dickering with gtr synths since the early '80's. Would love to ditch all those special guitars with hex pickups and just plug and play. I too.... am soooo broke. But I do have $98 on a credit card freed up. Think they'll barter?

I advice everyone to check (at least) Fishman TriplePlay.
Almost no latency (because no regular hex sensor), not so expansive.

Of course, it is not in the same price range ;)

Yeah the Fishman has been on my wish list for some time, but that thing has a dedicated sensor for each string, so I'm also completely blown away with what MidiGuitar can do from and audio signal, with really no noticeable latency! Whatever algorithms they're using to predict notes, especially low notes is some pretty impressive shit!

    On a related note....
    https://www.keithmcmillen.com/labs/stringport-2/

I realized awhile back that the only way to truly get a functional midi guitar would be somehow to integrate the strings and frets so that it would have both the audio from each string to analyze and the physical location of your fingers and whether you're doing a bend or slide or vibrato, it would see that and integrate it into the midi info, and now this son of a bitch is actually doing it!

Deep Expressor also uses that same 'note prediction' technology.
It will be interesting when they release it as a separate VST.

    Explanation from Jam Origin.

I guess you can say its similar to some of the EHX pedals but its actually a lot more powerful and something totally new: It basically breaks down your strings into 6 separate signals, and further for each of these signals, it breaks down the first 8 harmonics and the transients. So you have all the fundamental building blocks of the guitar tone and then can rebuild the signal again, as given by the knobs and sliders. In this sense, its the ultimate versatile EQ/transient/sustain/compression effect. It will probably take a few more revisions and a new UI before we get it all right, though.

The sustain knob is a good place to start. And of course add a good amp after.

$800 if you gig and need a backup opposed to $100

Slightly impressive but MIDIguitar comes very close without something that expensive.

Damn... too late. Gotta call from an overseas lawyer that says I'm entitled to a large inheritance (from a relative I never knew I had!). He had to mail me some paperwork... but at my expense. I had to convert $80 into an iTunes card and send him the pin number. That's some funny way of charging...I guess he must be a big music fan!

Is this primarily designed for an electric guitar? .....and getting good reviews :)

I would be grateful to hear if anyone on here has tested it with an acoustic electric ? How does it perform especially in terms of polyphonic midi ...playing chords etc?
