a bit esoteric but if you dont mind hoping over to pyramix you could go hunt for Smart AV Tango
merging liked it so much they bought loads of it to keep the users happy. and are still
maintaining it i belive. this was the best imo.

i agree that theres only the s3 looking somewhat promising.
the truth is there are no high end controllers, just tons of cheap ordinary plastic midi controllers and some higher quality with preamps and shit that pushes the price.....
Theres only the ancient MCU Protocol that works quite well with the ability to 14 bit control over plugin parameters, there are tons of hardware and Apps for it, and Lemur can handle it as well.
Eucon is way better and advanced, but i don't want to take that pill either.
Reaper got some nice OpenSoundControl implementation for Lemur tho.

the main problem is integration in the DAW. thats why going the MCU route is the best bet.

i like the touchscreen approach, interacting directly without mapping is actually working very well for most stuff.
don't like the Raven....

@saltwater actually the old eucon-based digidesign controllers work fine even with Reaper, I've tested those, even under Windows 7 x64
I guess MCU is the only worth standard, but is't fairly ancient solution with limited functionality...

@Hades that one looks interesting, but without motorized faders it has no use imo

How do you daisy chain them? Is there anything to configure? Does one of them act as master and the other two as slaves, or do you have three master units with tripled transport controls? Because of the MIDI drivers I guess three units for a grand total of 24 faders is the limit. Am I right?

 

Unless you are going to go all out and get something like an Avid C 24, I don't really think you need to waste your money on a control surface. It would be better to invest that money in a audio interface, preamp, microphone, acoustic treatment, outboard gear, or pretty much anything else. If your really thinking you need a motorized fader you really only need one channel so you can just buy something like PreSonus's FaderPort for $130.

With software like Waves Vocal Rider though you really don't need to waste time riding faders like you did 10 years ago. Manually editing the clip gain or automation is faster and more efficient anyways.

I've been considering one of these but unsure about their integration with the DAWs I use (Ableton and Studio One).

 

looks like the QCon blows... i wanna see how it works with Studio One ; if it does it as promising as with cubhaze on that video; ill get it.

 

Use to use the nektar panorama p6 which is the keyboard version of the p1 and it worked amazingly with studio one. I'm sure they updated since I had it. I know in reason I never had to look at the screen, but sold it sadly for a roli. Love the roli but the p6 just was a sexy keyboard.

 

Ableton Live and Nektar Panorama are not a good fit, because Ableton refuses to open up their api to Nektar. At least, that's what Tim Chandler told me.

So... poor man's method.

I use TouchDAW on an old android tablet for the "flying faders" type stuff.
For automation recording, I use an old Mackie Ultramix without the controller PC. I prefer to record automation with it rather than TouchDAW because I prefer the "tactile" feel of an actual fader. Just MIDI learn the control/fader I'm trying to automate and record it, then use the TouchDAW app on the android tab if edits are needed.

Of course my situation varies from the OP since I'm on Windows 7 64 bit, and using Sonar. But I wouldn't think that it would be impossible to implement.

Cost... Mackie Ultramix was thrown in with a Mackie 8 bus 24 channel board I was buying, so essentially free. TouchDAW is very low priced on Google Play. Android tablet, already had laying around.

Some of those things like the Faderport look really useful and cool, though. I'd love to have actual flying faders, but from what I've read, to get anything with good resolution, you've really got to spend the $$$.

 

I just bought touchdaw recently with my google rewards payout for answering surveys for them.

 

So many uses for this app. I'll use the transport on my phone to Start the DAW recording if I'm doing a vocal or acoustic recording session by myself. I'm normally in a different room so I don't catch the fan noise from the racks and PC.
