Who is interested, Analog Obsession released recently several vintage analog modulated equalizers, compressors, limiters.
Go to their website and look through their new products. Site is still under development, because several days ago it was too weird and bad, now it is much better and becomes more interesting.

yeah, I noticed description has "Khz" instead of "kHz", recently I reported they have wrong description, they fixed that. So, if they have such typos, it is possible that they plugin may be buggy, because typos in code means it works worse, or doesn't work at all. I wish they do programming well for plugins and good emulations of true analogueness, less aliasing, etc.
Will try FILTEQ soon. It was done with MakeBelieveStudios: look through their website, they have a lot of studios, a lot of gear and instruments. A LOT! huge studios...Maybe they do it well together) who knows..

I was not feeling that EQ Plugin soundwise. The Highs sounded very harsh, digital and unnatural to me like plugins sounded in the 2000s. The GUI is pretty horrible. It looks like something you create with Knobman. You get no info about the parameters (on/off) or what the steepness of the High Pass Filter is. The dB controls of the rotary knobs is really counterintuitive and the the dB scale and the Frequencies is almost not readable. I trashed it after 5 minutes.

Not worth the trouble. IMO those plugins are a joke. No idea where the 'analog obsession' comes from. Definitely not from the sound.

Just another couple of scammers trying to squeeze easy money from gullible people by using words that people like to hear. That's all.

Loads of people do that because it is not that hard to make a VST plugin with open source DSP code and slap a fake 3D perspective GUI on it. People absolutely *love* those! And eyes trick them into hearing everything they believe in, especially if the price is above $100, because more expensive must be good. Then use marketing talk to persuade people that your plugins are incredible, and you make some easy money.

American snake oil salesmen. Must love them.

The "testimonials" part is the one that always make me choke with laughter. I mean, do you really believe those people would say those things if they weren't paid some money, or compensated with some hardware for free? :hahaha: It's completely ridiculous. You have to be completely retarded to believe those.

One word: Jordan Rudess. :hahaha: As soon as I see him endorsing some product I must visit the toilet and "unload". :hahaha: I mean no disrespect for J.R. as a keyboardist, or Dream Theatre, but you know... the man is in every audio newspaper possible, promoting anybody that pays him to promote their stuff.

There are much more of these crap salesmen than you think.

The "snake oil virus" has spread all over the world. I actually did mean "American snake oil salesmen *type*" I should have pointed that out.

Turkish people are also known as great salesmen. "Great" meaning they will sell you sugar coated shit for a steep price with a smile on their face. Oh well, these days everybody does it, I don't mean to offend anybody except the snakeoil salesmen all over the world. However, for some peoples trading and profit is a bit more traditional thing, if you know what I mean.

Having said that, I'm such a bad salesman... I just look forward to getting rid of the thing that I want to sell. I so hate selling stuff. It's much easier to buy, eh?

Where does the phrase "snake oil" actually come from? I'm not a native speaker, but hearing it I associate it with something like "voodoo" or "fugazi".

The most interesting thing, is there one guy on Gearslutz says he tested this plugin vs Acustica Audio's Acqua plugin DIAMOND-COLOR EQ side by side and says this freeware plugins sounds like analog and opens highs in a best way. Do you think it is overhyped shit? Who can compare here this Filteq vs DIAMOND-COLOR eq?

Personally I don't think it is overhyped promotion thru free products, because their paid products has no protection and license, only demo limitation which is each 20 minutes the settings are reset. But what is 20 minutes for simple 3-7 knobs plugin? Recalling presets thru preset saving in DAW (if it works) or using screenshots to backup settings and render. Your plugin works well in 20 minutes, nothing to buy and overhype, plugins are simple to use and dupe this limitation. Something like that.

It certainly doesn't sound like Diamond. An odd thing is all bands are at +2db by default. A lame attempt to trick the user thinking it makes things suddenly sound better. Worse part is you can't make them go to 0 because it's either + either - 2db :wow:.

Leather jackets that were not leather when I went to Turkey and foolishly wandered into one of those markets that is a maze of merchants with shit they'll absolutely insist you'll buy because you need it. They've mastered the art of brutalizing the customer into believing they are never right and en masse all apear kind of like this:
Heck I live right near the airport, A little 10 minute drive if the traffic is good, Double it for busy and triple it for rush hour and right here in my own mini-Turkish market place...If I ever wanted to be (which is never, Still you know celebrate a bit of multiculturalism and all)

It's a digital replica of analog gear called FILTEK MK3, which also does not have 0dB too, you can set either +2 or -2.
So it's simple to make 0dB. One insert as +2dB boost, another one insert as -2dB cut for compensation. And you get 0dB. Simple math for 4-5 years old children.
Go to gearslutz, find this thread and you will see an image of original gear and description. It's not a plug-in developer's fault, it is how the original gear has been done first. The cost of this unit is about 400 bucks. You have this for free. Simple download by clicking and without registration and put this into vst folder.
Another question is how it emulates original unit. If it is too close, so this developer is a good guy and his plugins might be awesome .

Funny enough the +2dBs on the midrange don't seem to do anything, and the hyped response is at the extremes of the spectrum. Your argument with inserting 2 instances to compensate for the boost is non-practical anyway, besides that it should be a symmetrical design to exactly compensate the boosts (which I didn't checked and it's not needed anyway, since the response is, oddly enough, different than what it says on the label).

I stand corrected for the position of controls since I didn't know it's an emulation. However, it sounds average to me and aliases the same way the Soundtoys stuff does (SieQ, Decapitator), which means no oversampling is implied in the algorithm, a bad choice in my opinion for a plugin that generates harmonic distortion.
