What's up folks. I'm searching for a really solid Education course (I make Hip Hop so would like it to lean on that direction, don't need in depth tutorials on recording live artists) that goes through everything on explaining how effects processors work and how to use them correctly. Mixing techniques, etc. My biggest thing is learning how to use compressors correctly and have a better understanding. I use Cubase 8 and everything I do is pretty much Midi based, VST heavy inside the box production . Only outside hardware I use is my Condensor Mic running through my AI. If anyone could recommend a really great educational tutorial collection. I would appreciate it. Thanks

After countless hours of material watched on compression, I could recommend this one:

All courses will give you an introduction to what every parameter does, but I found this one pretty clear on what to listen for, as compression is a really tricky process to grab with your ears when you´re starting to get used to shaping sounds and mixing them. It was really helpful to me and to many friends who were starting to learn how to mix their own stuff.

Of course, you will find tons of specific genre in-depth courses material and such, but I suggest to grab the basics first as many specific moves are too aggressive or effect-oriented and they won't be always applicable.

Thanks folks I appreciate the help. Yeah man. All my stuff is all 90's throwback too bro. I like to dig for samples and keep snare and vocals in your face with a chest thumping kick. Don't really understand new hip hop. I just want to polish up my shit even more. Would really like to trade my Fast Track Pro in for a UA Apollo Twin. My fast track drives me crazy it likes to crash too much.

I'm really just trying to find videos on Mixing and Mastering tips/Understanding and using effects effectively in Cubase. The FL Studio YouTube link looks promising even though it is a different DAW the concept is the same. : )

 

Anytime Philoso and I feel you on that bro, I don't get it either, It's lost the characters that made certain producers and rappers unique and just instantly anyone listening could tell it was them, Nowadays it all seems to sound like the same everything except for the vocals but it's taken the heart and soul out of what made me a fan, Hence why I doubt those landmark releases will be eclipsed by anyone that I am currently aware of, Perhaps they'll be a resurgtence eventually to make hip hop great again by new blood with also the elements of late 80's and early 90's Public Enemy political attacks/society critical messages laced in the rhymes, I can not relate to someone or a bunch of someone's going on about how great they are, how their crew is the most savage, how rich they are, how their car and other material items are just so superior to the listener's, How much they piss up the wall on overpriced faggy champagne and throw money away at strippers...etc. Nah, It doesn't resonate with me at all. As I'm a die hard metal lifer, Rage Against The Machine are a band that used that same energy but mashed it together with funk and metal which was great, It is almost like all these feminists, social justice warriors, regressive left fake-liberals and so on have influenced culture far too heavily to the point where musicians, film makers and even fucking comedians are timid of these cry babies that use social media as a weapon to shut people down, I'm from England, UK but I followed the Occupy Wall street thing which started out as a good thing but it was rapidly co-opted and ruined by insane people that had no idea about the reasons they we're protesting...etc. and most stuff has gone downhill since that time. Now these college and university crowd are wanting censorship, supporting bigger government and are just the antithesis of what I stand for, The cultural Marxist, post-modern brainwashing/indoctrination they go through at so-called "higher education" is shocking and if something doesn't give, We'll end up with an Orwellian dystopia in the western world, Which is insane!

Sorry for going off on a bit of a rant bro, I just do really care and I want people to be individuals, free thinkers, Open to hearing out any/all ideas, Debates that challenge ideas instead of just some garbage that confirms what someone already believes and so on. i don't recommend putting compression on fresh clean dry recorded tracks.
every audio sample is unique like a fingerprint. think of it as you only ever want to process the audio track based on what it EXACTLY needs next. the hard part is getting used to knowing WHAT that is, what can assist is building that wisdom and knowledge up is first, and most important you HAVE to have studio monitors or audiophile speakers headphones that are clear enough to hear what is actually happening in a sound. otherwise anything you do is futile . once you have that learn everything you can about transients how they are effected by different process. learn about harmonic overtones effect the signal as all hardware does this and plugins emulate ( to a degree)

the most important thing to know is ,take special care with your transients whatever damage is done to them will always be there in the final master. the more delicate you are with handling them, is the closer to a finished master that is up to par with the best out there.
