How is being not connected to the internet relative to updates?

Maybe because without fresh security updates Win7 might be more prone to exploits so better hide it from the internet

That is more of a speculation which I and many others have yet to experience.

And that's not like Win 7 is a bunker, it won't change much imo. But it scares me a bit about the future, Micro$oft might completely drop Win 7 support officially sooner than we think... And swapping to Win 10? HELL NO. I want to keep Win 7 for at least 5 more years, it's literraly the (already old) new Win XP...

It just means no updates. And on my DAW I always disable updates anyway. But I am on Win10 so not really my problem, heh. But yeah, you don't need updates. If it works, it works and it will not stop working by itself.

Hehe, when I fresh installed the current win7 for some (common) reason the updates did not install. I couldn't "wake up" the ms update, even manually for a couple of weeks. This sucked not because of the security but because some .net and c++ stuff did not get installed. Edit: agree with poster ↓↓, don't need update to install this.

Then finally ms update woke up and I installed all the "security" updates. But after some time I saw that the auto update eats too much CPU power and disabled everything. Decided to manually check for security updates. This was a year ago, forgot about it, STILL ALIVE! :hahaha:

this affects only recent cpus, Skylake (Intel 6000 series) and Kaby Lake (Intel 7000 series),
also since everything important can be installed WITHOUT windows updates (MSVisualC++, dotNET, DirectX), and basically since release of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 there hasn't been anything useful among updates, I don't really see a problem here

    1) It doesn't matter which operating system you use for as long as it works with everything you need it to work with. Thunderbolt, firewire, SCSI, old MIDI hardware etc.
    2) You don't need *any* MS updates to be able to work with your DAW and your audio interfaces. Actually, 1 in a 100 might be needed, but you can install these manually.
    3) Network cards are bad for DPC latency, especially wi-fi cards. If you work with audio it is recommended to disable all network cards.
    4) Having a separate OS for Internet will make sure the data in your audio OS is safe from viruses and other malware.
    5) Without internet on your DAW computer you will be more productive, in my experience.
    6) I don't care the least what you think about what I think. It is your computer and your work to decide what to do with it. I'm just trying to help people get the most from their DAWs and I've been doing that for a very long time. I am kinda oldskool, but my work is highly appreciated and what's most important is that computers I set up work flawlessly.
