As a longtime user and supporter of AMD, this here is absolutely delightful news. Down with the Intel hegemony I say. As the Lord of free market economics said "Let there be competition, ye monopolistic bitches!" :guru:

Looks like pre-order price for 1800x is at $799 USD. That should go back down to $499 USD once it's officially released and everyone calms down, right? lol

    i7-6800 vs 1500
    6c/12t vs 6c/12t
    499$(old price) vs 229$
    140W vs 65W

Yeah not even funny how intel after price drop still want 130$ more over 1500 for something that maybe have a few % better IPC but is otherwise at this point vastly inferior product. It really show how much unneeded balast(all kind of not important employees) and how much ineffective company they become through the years with lack of competitive market.

Hold up, till there are some feedback with daw & plugins, VI compatibility / optimization etc...unless you wannabee a beta tester.

Personnaly I don't mind as I'm ok for a few years with my Hackintosh setup, and not ready to go back with Windows OS.

Thats a lot of shared ram being gobbled up by your onboard graphics. You know some plugs can utilize the cuda cores for dsp now right? So 1 4k and 2 1080s is over 5gigs of your system ram being allocated for vram.
Get a GPU man. Theyre cheap now. Rule of thumb is 1g per 1080. You will definitly notice an improvement.

Choosing a RYZEN AM4 chip is the easy part, now time to ponder on which motherboard/brand to go with it. Here's a list :

    http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-am4-motherboard-round-up-msi-gigabyte-asrock-asus-x370/

Might want to go bigger on the mobo.

For GPU, I think I'm going with AMD RADEON graphics card this time, to bypass the possible NVIDIA latency spike problem. Something simple like an R9. I don't game. ;-)

Side-note: Are there any dual socket MoBos for Ryzen (now that Ryzen CPU is almost half the price of some Intel CPUs)? :D
That would be pretty sweet. (I googled but couldn't find any)

Can you quote some plugs that can use Cuda cores? I'm very interested in this, I have a GTX1060 6GB :guru:

That's not a direct price cut from intel. Microcenter has these kinds of sales quite frequently, but they are in store pickup only.

I rarely need all 32GB of RAM that I have and I don't use 4k TV with DAW. I never thought about cuda cores though. This sounds interesting, is there a recent (2016) list of cuda compatible VSTs anywhere? I did have GPU but pulled it out as without it PC is almost totally silent and I didn't notice any performance advantage with it (for multi-monitor DAW and 4kTV video use).

Has anybody seen a version of Ryzen announced or planned with on chip GPU?

This is going to make me delay my new build until things settle out. Was planning on a 6700K. I'd like to see how others experiences are with Ryzen before I take that plunge. I'm still using an AMD Phenom II that was gifted to me so I would have no issue going the AMD route if I knew others were having positive experiences as far as audio work with Ryzen. At the least, I'm expecting it will push down Intel pricing so win - win as far as I'm concerned. @Jaymz, I know you're a fellow Sonar user so really interested to hear what you decide and how that works. Who knows, I may be using Reaper by then.

    @mrfloyd @RedThresh
Off of the top of my head I know that Nebula pro has had cuda support since 3. And there was a reverb too Liquidsonics? I think. For some reason they were saying it was better for reverbs. CPU was faster than GPU for the Nebula pres and such but that was a while ago, the tech could be different now.

@subGENRE, that's what my research showed with Nebula. I thought it just might have been my old video card which didn't have to many CUDA cores.
