    Power Supply vs USB Hardware

What is the minimal Power Supply i should buy ?

So, what i want is to calculate precisely what is my power consumption.
Which power supply should i buy ( for my current old PC, but will be compatible when i change PC )

    -Overview-
I've been struggling with weird problem on my computer for over 2 years.
At random moments, it would deactivates USB hardware.Everything else on the PC is OK %100.
Power manager & Device manager have been set properly.

Affected USB Hardware are : (--total 2100 mA--)

    ( US-122 mkII ) External Audio Card [ 500 mA ]
    ( Maschine mk1 ) Controller [ 400 mA ]
    ( APC Mini ) Controller [ 100 mA ]
    ( MPD-18 ) Controller [ 500 mA ]
    ( CMD-MM1 ) Controller [ 00 mA ]
    ( MasterKey 25 ) Controller [ 100 mA ]
    ( US-122 mkII ) Controller [ 500 mA ]

Unaffected USB Hardware are : (--total 232 mA--)

    Mouse [ 100 mA ]
    Keyboard [ 100 mA ]
    external HDD [ 2 mA ]
    external HDD [ 30 mA ]

    Computer Details

    Power Supply : Sentey BCP450-OC
    Processor : Pentium Dual-Core E5800 3.2GHz
    Memory : 2 x 2 Gb DDR2
Graphic : NVIDIA GeForce GT 610
    Motherboard : MSI G31TM-P21
    1 x internal SSD 256 gb
    2 x internal HDD 7500 rmp

    Power Supply Calculator

i found this one ( but i need one with more details for USB hardware )

Here's my set up' results :

So before anyone tells me to change computer , you need to know it's doing it's job already.
It's is working perfectly with heavy Kontakt libraries. Latency and work flow is perfect for what i need to do.
Heavy Maschine's project's a VST makes my computer struggle, so this is the limit of my computer.
And i can easily live with it.

So the only question i really need answer to : What is the minimal Power needed for my new Power Supply.

If it has to be compatible with a new setup, its surely more important to decide what will be in that rather than what you are using now.

Either way spend as much as you can afford on a good, branded power supply, never use some noname crap from ebay.

About your usb dropouts, are you using a quality powered hub to plug all these things into?

Try going into Device Manager (Google it for your OS) and right click on each USB device that is a problem, click Properties-Power Management and unclick where it says to let the computer turn off device to save power. The hubs have this. Controlers don't.

No, any recommandations? in store, i only see USB hub that don't give much power even if they have power adapter (+- 500mA)

I wouldn't go for less than 450 watt regarding the power supply to play it on the safe side, and of course from a known brand.

On a side note, you mentioned that you have no problem using heavy Kontakt libraries which I find surprising given the fact that you only have 4 gb on your pc. Or maybe you are freezing tracks all the time while working on a project?

BTW which OS do you use? 64 bit?

Beside the power supply, it might be possible that your dual core CPU isn't optimized / is too old to drive so many connected devices at the same time.

    Thanks everyone.

i might go for a new power supply Cougar 700W v3 which will give +5V at 20A instead of +5V at 13A with my current power supply (450W).
Also waiting for a friend to tell me if he's selling his PC or not ... (more recent gamer tour)

:dunno:On the weird side : since i wrote this topic, everything is working flawlessly ??!! Can you imagine ...:dunno:

@jayxflash I dont want to use USB Hub, mostly because the power stays on unless you unplug the hub's power supply
(including the model you suggested above).

@mrpsanter Yes i am on 64 bits. Also, i was scared someone would bring up the "this might be something else". Hope you are wrong on this one.
And we probably don't have the same definition of heavy libraries ... :) And yes, when needed , i freeze tracks ... (specially the heavy ones ...)

Finally found the source of the problem.
    Was Power related of course.
But not the power supply : tested with bigger psu
The CDM mm-1 is supposed to give power to 4 other cdm hardware ... but its power supply or ports can't !!!!
(support cant event tell me if i increase the mm-1's power supply [from 12v/1000mA to 12v/3000mA], will the extra power be available on the 4 USB port [5v/500mA each] )
So i plugged almost everything directly in the computer.
The problem remained only for the external soundcard.
An old USB hub (powered) between PC and soundcard fixed it.
P.S. i bought a USB 3.0 Hub to test but i still had the bug ... and the thing was staying on after i turned off PC

The only problem remaining is the USB hub which is supposed to be USB 2 is in fact detected as USB 1 ...
    deviceID : VID_1A40&PID_0101&REV_0111

At least i can work now !!! but only in 44Kh or 48Kh ......
Thank you all for you advices, informations and comments

i believe the PCPartPicker site may work for you too. If you put all your components in as a new build and leave the PSU til last, I believe it tells you what would be compatible in terms of your system's max power requirements.
