That was exaggerated in purpose bro ! But I'd like to know if they fixed our friend's problem ? Or the update was better pictures of the drummer's faces ?
(To be fair they updated a lot of stuff, I just watched the details on Audioz)
I didn't say they let everything dies brutally, but they're changing their orientation to go multimedia instead of pro oriented gear.
Logic 10 is made for people who make music occasionally or only to have some fun, it's not pro oriented as the 9 was !
OSX has more and more shits like calendar synchronizations with your phone, iMessage etc... But is not as stable as it was, etc... They go mainstream, but the problem for us, is that they don't want to keep the pro section.

I quit Logic for Pro Tools some years ago when the Logic 10 showed up.

Now that I'm done the 30 KennyMania/ReaperMania tut vids (2X playback in YouTube is your friend:winker:), and I've created and begun to work with a full project in Reaper, I'm feeling very comfortable. So far the transition has been far less painful than I thought it would be. I haven't yet encountered anything I regularly did in Logic that I can't in Reaper - but there have been a few happy surprises of things I had wished I could do in Logic that I can in Reaper. FX on items/regions? Yes please! Slip editing? Yes please! To be honest there have been many of these pleasant little surprises. Too many to list here. I'm sure that at some point I'll find something I did in logic that I can't do in Reaper - but I haven't yet. Then again, I'm more in mixing mode at the moment rather than composition mode - so perhaps any shortcomings will reveal themselves then. But given my preferred style of working with software - I usually eschew features that "do things for me" and would rather do them myself - I think the Reaper approach will probably work for me just fine.

I'm going to check out @vanhaze 's YouTube vids (https://www.youtube.com/user/vanhaze2000/playlists) today and then by tonight if I'm feeling comfortable enough with "stock Reaper" I'll be onto extensions/scripts/themes etc.! Woot!

Quick question to those of you running Reaper on OSX machines - having joined and perused the Reaper forums yesterday I came across a few gripes that the open-source SWS code isn't being regularly maintained with every new update of Reaper and as such things are starting to break - this seeming more of an issue on the OSX side of things than the WIN side of things. If indeed the SWS pack is becoming buggy I'll have to really consider if I'm up and/or ready for it before installing. One reason I'm leaving Logic is because of constant bugginess, so that's not a bed I'm eager to jump into again - nor would it be pleasant in a DAW I'm still largely unfamiliar with.

Can anyone here running Reaper with SWS on OSX confirm, deny or share experience in this regard?

If I have to choose between those two I would pick Reaper. It has much much way better CPU consumption than S1.

That's great to know - thanks. Mostly what I was reading was about relatively superficial stuff (like color picking) but when I downloaded the SWS package I noticed that it had not been updated since January 2016, and 13 months seemed a long time given the frequency of Reaper updates. But I'll give it a shot. I'm probably just being paranoid. And worst case scenario I can always go back to "stock Reaper" if I'm not into the add-ons. It's nice to have options.

Nebula really bumped up the sound of my mixes, it gave me "that sound" which had been so elusive before. That coupled with modeled emulations is really something to hear. It's a rough workflow to figure out at first, but well worth the effort IMHO.

That's exactly how I feel about the Airwindows Console/Buss system. Takes a bit to wrap one's head around and doesn't exactly make for the smoothest workflow (why doesn't everything have post fader FX slots?!?), but once you get it right, and hear it, there's no going back.

That certainly seems to be the consensus. The only ill words I've heard about Reaper are related to the steep learning curve, and frankly I'm finding that less steep than initially feared ... but indeed I've yet to hear one person claim that any other DAW runs smoother, or more efficiently on the CPU than Reaper.

I don't want my mother's big, shiny, comfy boat-of-a-Cadillac that floats all over the road, needs eight lanes to pull a U-turn, and seems to have failing computer parts every few months, for a DAW – I want my buddies suped-up 1980s Porsche with the rock hard seats, that slams my head back when he hits the gas, can turn or stop on a dime at 100 mph, and has an engine that he can tweak and repair himself in his garage when he needs or wants to, for a DAW.

. . . then again, we did almost die in it once.

This one thing right here has got me ready to dive in and see what's up. It would save me from having to bypass the convolution reverbs I'm using on sends while working with heavy plugin chains. That was one additional reason I ended up moving the 2 bus duties out of the box to my hardware.
Also, I've always wished for a pre-fader and post-fader insert sections within Sonar (in use at the same time, not either/or). Sounds like Reaper has this?

Reaper officianados correct me if I'm wrong, but sadly I think the answer to this is curently no - but there's some talk about it in the forums.

Have you seen how Harrison Mixbus does it? Your fader "module" can be placed anywhere in your FX chain - brilliant.

I love reaper and it's my go to DAW for mixing these days... CPU wise I haven't run into any hiccups. Coming from ProTools the transition has been pretty smooth. I tried to get into Studio one but just never really gave it a shot.. but people that use it seem to love it and it does look amazing. Personally I like how reaper looks and to be honest a DAW is a DAW... plus reaper can be customized to your liking. My work flow is a little weird but I tend to use tools for certain tasks and I normally base that on how quickly I work with the specific tool. I still use ProTools to edit audio.. when ever I need to chop things up I love tab to transient (which Reaper also has) and the work flow of ProTools for this type of editing of multiple audio files just works for me in ProTools as I'm quick. I use Reaper for mixing/mastering... all the plugins I use (T-Racks, Virtual Mix Console, Virtual Tape Machines, etc) work great. I think it all comes down to what you want to do any what you expect.... in my personal opinion if someone was looking for something that was more catered to the process of creating music using virtual instruments.. I probably would suggest Studio One (based on what I've heard about it) or even something like FL Studio... if someone was more into recording and mixing/mastering... I'd probably suggest Reaper. even tho you can accomplish the same on both..

AFAIK R doesn't have pre-FX fader, but there are other ways to control gain, like pre-FX volume automation, clip gain, gain VSTs, and FX in/out gain slider (depending on FX).

I think what some people are really craving isn't to have a fader that comes before all FX, but rather to have the choice of whether an FX is placed before the fader, or after the fader in your signal chain. Of course there are many ways around not having this functionality, but none are as elegant as simply being able to put FX before or after the fader as you so choose.

I use a couple of plugins (or plugin system) from Airwindows that's like bookends. One plug goes last in your FX chain on your tracks, and another plug goes first on your stereo bus. I can place the first plug (the first of the bookends) as the very last plugin in my channel's FX chain, but if my fader is then set at -12db I'm attenuating what that plugin is doing by 12db before it hits its companion plugin (the other side of the bookend) on my stereo bus, which screws up the calibration between the two. Workflow wise they're clunky without post-fader FX slots, but sound wise I love them.

    I wouldnt lie to you.....:mates:
I do love this. Easy to unfreeze and make edits refreeze and your fx stay happy, without all the extra bussing.

Reduce number of automation points . . . OMG, sometimes it's the little things.

Yay. I will make use of this. There's nothing worse than trying to bend over your computer and keyboard to arm/disarm tracks and hit record when you're in the middle of a jam with a guitar hanging around your neck.
