OK, as this thread is likely to become sticky (in a good sense ;) I would really appreciate a rating too.
How close does the virtual emulation sound compared to the real thing?

Is it close enough that only a side-by-side shootout will reveal the minor differences, or is it too far away to actually hear which hardware it's about to emulate at all?

There are loads of emulations trying to mimic some analog synth, but only relatively few actually sound close enough to be a worthy replacement.

@SAiNT: Does this forum support ratings in lists so everybody can add his own experience?

Vier is the MS-404, I think you have a typo there.

Also U-No-LX is the Juno 106, while ReDominator is the Alpha Juno, which is a completely different synth

@fiction I think that a rating system will be hard to implement (even if the forum software allowed it, which I dont think it does) because of the subjective factor. Since we are not dealing with the "real thing" aka the Hardware but a program code that aims for approximation, the different emulations does the job differently in different situations and their digital "artifacts" surface in different applications.

Exidus, typo-fixes and some changes please:
    a) Novation V-Station emulates K-Station, not vice-versa; and K-Station, not KS Station, so it will look like:

    Novation K-Station
    Novation V-Station

    b) Manx Gigmate, not Gigmiate

    c) Arturia Synclavier V, not Sythclavier

    d) CLAVIA NORD should be centered (in the center, not on the left)

    other fixes later..

Currently, I can only see the Poll functionality where I can create a list and click one or more items.
What I mean is at least, say, 5 levels of rating per list item, something like:

If you have used and compared any of the following hardware emulations to the real hardware, please rate their "closeness" of emulation here (only in terms of sound):
    Synth 1: [1] very different, [2] so-so, [3] fairly similar, [4] very similar, [5] indistinguishable
    Synth 2: [1] very different, [2] so-so, [3] fairly similar, [4] very similar, [5] indistinguishable
    Synth 3: [1] very different, [2] so-so, [3] fairly similar, [4] very similar, [5] indistinguishable

Anyone who has compared hardware with one of the software emulations could leave his experience with the synths she/he's tested by clicking to rate the respective one. (we would have to trust people to leave honest ratings based on their own experience)

@Exidus: Sure, comparing sound can be very subjective, but if enough people join the club, I believe the average ratings will be useful nonetheless.
If the quality of emulation including artifacts depends on the situation, then of course that should also affect the rating!

fiction good idea, yet I wonder, how many people here have actually played all that mostly vintage expensive gear to be qualified for making comparisons?

still, I think, a few insights from those who had, won't hurt my chances to become a new Rachmaninoff...

    ...since chances are zero...

apologies for a sudden stream of consciousness

    I have C.
Spire is too close, but too far. So, Virus-like style, like Z3ta+, Vanguard, Hive etc...
Virus is much cool, I don't get too much harshness with Virus than Spire. Yeah, I did tests, Virus has aliasing too, but when work with spire, highs are not "ssss", but "ssss" + a bit of "shshshs"....Spire is fat, strong, warm, but too digital sometimes..Same with Sylenth1...
And, Spire is enough for my production, I use Virus rarely..

KS Station is exact the same engine and also fully compatible with my X-station , so you are wrong to say that. V-station emulates all from K series, and further compatible with A-station and X-station

Don't know about Novation series etc. I just see on official site/manual that V-Station is a virtual clone of K-Station and supports programs to/from K-Station and A-Station...Somewhere saw KS-Station is an improved/expanded version of K-Station, but V-Station is mostly K-Station-like...
About engine comparison I don't know. If they are all exact, so V-Station might emulate all of them. If not - not. I see only info about K emulation only..

    Waldorf Q/microQ
    TerraTec KOMPLEXER

    Waldorf Blofeld
    Waldorf Largo
    TerraTec KOMPLEXER

I don't know if this is true, just KOMPLEXER supports presets import made for Blofeld/Q/microQ/Blofeld...
So, making a conclusion, these presets are made for KOMPLEXER too to sound the same way as Waldorf Q/microQ/Blofeld/Largo do...
BUT I don't know about how close/similar they sound...no comparisons I found...But KOMPLEXER sounds super like Novation/Waldorf/Clavia Nord Lead/Virus....or something close..But the fact that presets for Waldorfs and Komplexer, should mean "same/similar/close"...
So add this as emulation without confusing...because it is much closer to Waldorfs, than "SynthEdit emulations of Analog ones".
