Reading about AOM Invisible Limiter capabilities I have found a note which refers about "Limiter chaining". Surfing the web I've not found relevant info so is there someone who can explain me when and how use such configuration?

    Thanks. :)

isn't limiter chaining the use of a 2nd limiter in series and after the 1st?
the 2nd one is there to catch anything the 1st one didn't quite squash enough

A chain of (let's say) 3 limiters or compressors reducing each 1dB is going to introduce less distortion than one limiter or compressor reducing 3dB.

From my experience, you rarely need a chain on a channel that hosts a single instrument (so a single set of transients). But on submixes or master bus, where the transients of many instruments mix together, dynamics chains can change the game.

Better to use chain of one clipper and two limiters Instead of just 3 limiters. Just my two cents.

As @tulamide said you dont't need to bother about limiter chaining if you use True Peak Limiters, and if the purpose is to catch ISPs better. However it's still quite relevant when it's about to spare limiting process. For example if I want my Pro-L limiter to reduce 6db of signal, most of the time I would call a second limiter like AOM and make it reduce a few db, same with the Pro-L. This way the unit works less harder and introduce less artefacts, also give better dynamics results. This rule apply to Compressors too (especially the clean ones) in a master bus processing context.

Remember the purpose of Limiter chaining is not to squash harder but is to squash better.

You guys are awesome. It's all clear now and, don't worry, I don't need to bother about anything thanks to your shared knowledge.

i wouldn't use limiting if i were you it is a crappy substitute for improper gain staging, if you do want to use limiting better off with fabfilter
