Basically our post production is hurting and we'd like to improve. The first bootleg was roughly mixed and mastered to the best of our ability at the time, then the second was after some tweaks in our process. So forum members I would like you guys to take a listen to both, rate, comment, subscribe if you like it, otherwise let us know what we can do to tighten up our post production (mixing & mastering)or any other things that seem off or wrong :) I'll be checking in a lot and can answer any questions anyone has about the productions, Enjoy!

Katy Perry - Part of Me (ADIEUX BOOTLEG)

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (ADIEUX Bootleg)

If they were my productions I'd def. have a look at the attack/release times on your side chain, I'm only listening on my laptop but it really seems to be squashing your whole mix.
It's possible to get a side chain effect (albeit not as extreme) through careful eq'ing/mixing, I think if you toned down the s/c effect on your synth the other elements would be easier to identify and you would be able to get a better idea of where they should sit in the mix

Excellent idea will definitely look into this. It may also be a result of your laptop speakers + youtube on low quality. Did you happen to compare both tracks and notice the same problem in each of them? I'll try your advice, thanks!

    All advice is appreciated :)

No problem, was listening through HD25 headphones but I'm pretty sure thats your issue have had similar problems in the past with my own work. Now I go through each track in the composition and eq them hard, cut out as much frequency from each track until it starts to affect the overall sound (then stop) It gives so much more space.

We used the same EQ technique you described on each track on both of the songs, now I'm wondering if our master compressors, and individual s/c compressors were just bad and killed the frequency ranges making it smashed and flat. Both songs sounded good on the VXT 6's but a bit off in the car so we thought we'd ask the forum members what they thought.
