What do you think of websites mediating between ghost producers and people who want to buy ghost-produced tracks? (e.g. edmghostproducer.com etc)

Have you produced tracks for some ghost production companies? Do you recommend any of such companies/websites?

What are the pros and cons of becoming a ghost producer in a long run? What should you watch out for while signing contracts with ghost production websites? (what terms?)

I don't know anything about but it (that way of doing business) immediately sounds like "How to succeed at being ripped off right from the start".

edit: To be a little more specific..

The middleman take the biggest cut of whatever deal they make and some artist is going to get all the pussy. Eventually you'll get something if one of your songs makes it, probably not an avalanche of pussy neither loads of cash... but you'll be the one doing pretty much all the work in this transaction (if it happens), that's a given.

I remember a ghost producer (don't remember who or the source) saying something like: when a big name asks for a track, I know it will be in beatport top 10 seller so I negotiate a percentage from royalties. when some unknown dj/producer asks for a ghost track, I know it will not make it in top 100 beatport so I ask for a strainght payment with no future royalties involved.

What is ghostproducing?

 

Could be like ghost writers? For example, all those books you see, apparently written by footballers or football managers telling their life story are .. erm .. not written by them at all - they're written by ghost writers. Ghost writers give up the right for their name to appear connected with the book, but they write it, using interviews, phone calls with agents etc. Manuscripts are checked and read by the football stars/or their agents and the book appear as e.g. 'Any Famous Footballer - My life as a star'. Same for those newspaper articles aparently written by footballers/managers/experts, they are written by a staff writer after a phone interview. No doubt some celebrities Do write their own stuff, but that is how ghost-writing works.

 

i'd do it in a heartbeat. edmghostproducer.com was the only one i found as well, until i got educated on the subject.

LOL i remembered joke about Tiesto, some one asked on one of his videos ''man why this Tiesto dude is wearing only one shirt'' and the answer was hilarious ''It's because he spend all his money on ghost producers''i don't like to much spinning records it's like kindergarten records full of rich kids, again it's their way young producers beware of spinning

 

There is another side of doing Ghostwriting and it is called publishing - You can sell your production skills making a track for a fixed fee but you must keep your share of the publishing no matter what they say. This way if the track goes in the charts and get's play on Radio, music festivals or adverts you will earn good money from it.

Here is a thing about artist signed to mayor labels:

1- They don't always write their own songs

2- Artists travel around the world hooking up with other songwriters looking for that hit song

3- Artist will get a percentage of the publishing of a song even if they didn't write a single line of the song

4- Once the track is dope ( Melody and Lyrics ) the label will hire and incredible producer to create the musical parts, beats etc etc

5- Someone else ( famous ) will then mix either the track or the entire album

6- Someone else will mastered those songs or album

7- Artist will get all the credits and fame ( which is fine as songwriters don't want to be famous just write songs and pay their bills )

My point is that not only DJ's make a living while someone else write their songs, it happens globally in all music genres but we don't see it that way as an artist normally sings and it proves himself with real talent rather than pressing play on CDJ's in huge festivals.

This matter isn't black and white and there are million variables of artists and Dj's that do all themselves and it really isn't any right or wrong here is just the way the music industry works.

Don’t you guys think ghost producing has matured the past two years?

These days the producers get more and more recognized for their talent and they often get to keep their composing rights.

I work for a company(NO COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING ALLOWED), where composers actually make a nice sum of money by producing and selling music and believe me: they certainly don’t create shit!

i used to chat to a guy on the bus who spent his days in the back of a Music Shop arranging loop packs into 1/2min songs and his boss would upload them to a music library, kinda smart if you ask me, as some of these loop creator's hand over all rights on checkout.

 

It's a certain club of producers who only use Soundcraft Ghost consoles for mixing.

Really great console btw. Although I do prefer Allen & Heath consoles more.

Sounds similar to those 'we'll write your essay for you, for a price!' outfits. I think the people marking the work at something like a university would become aware of the ever changing style of your work and/or quality if you continually did it. Or if one essay was utterly brilliant when the rest of your work was shit, then they'd become suspicious. I reckon the same would happen if you were buying these tunes and passing them off as your own. Plus, if someone could write a stone cold solid, never off the decks of the popular DJ's in Ibiza over a summer season 100% BANGER! Then they'd be better off holding on to it themselves. It'd be far more beneficial to keep it to themselves and hopefully make a few more, get a name for yourself, than sell it for a few sheckles. I'd love to hear what they're selling though. If anyone's ever had anything to do with the companies who say they can reproduce a sample (to get around any clearance issues) then the results can be unintentionally hilarious and nothing like what they're trying to recreate. I was once tape opping in a studio when a client attempted to get one of these companies to recreate about 4 seconds of an Issac Hayes tune, because they were quoted a fortune for clearance. It may have been the quality weed that was going around, but we were howling with laughter at what they came up with. Admittedly, Isaac's silky growl is difficult to imitate accurately, but it sounded like whoever attempted to mimic him had severe digestive problems.
