So just got done watching the documentary... pretty damn good actually :like:

Enjoyed it all the way through with the exception of David Guetta being in it... don't ask me why. I just felt like he didn't add anything of relative importance to the film apart from he has a famous name.

Outside of this, I was surprised to find out that a large part of the 808 sound was due to Ikutaro's decision to use defective transistors in order to get, as he put it "that sizzling sound". That decision would eventually lead to the end of a 3 year production run for the TR808 not because it wasn't selling, but because as semi-conductor technology got better and better, there was no way of purchasing defective transistors simply because there weren't any available to be sourced.

    That's some crazy shit

yeah, been waiting what over a year for it to finally come out. really nice, i could watch it more than once, i just streamed it early in the morning just had to see it so it wasn't as enjoyable as watching calmly in the evening. :)

yeah, classic arty ending throwing in historic value, the heavy spirit of the creator/founder. all in all a pretty decent doc.

I could never understand why people still use those god-awful sounds. And I'm even more puzzled at how many packs of the same samples exist.

To each his own... although there's something to be said about the sheer quantity of music released, not to mention entire genres of music created with those "god-awful sounds". You may not understand it, but the numbers don't lie. The 808 transcends...

I still have TR-707 and TR-727, which are toys compared to TR-808,
and i can't even think of selling them even if they are accumulating dust on a shelf ...

And i'm half way through the movie, and i cant beleive how much i know AND dont know in this documentary ...

i might just be 5 years too young !!!!
(so i would have to agree with @aymat : what the hell is david guetta is doing there ??? - lol since is 1st album was released in 2002 Just a Little More Love )
