Just curious, how do those PA monitors hold up in the low end in that tiny space, in the corners?

 

they actually sound quite well lol. the room is about 12 feet square/ all around .lol. tiny tiny, actually doesnt sound too boomy or anything like that in here. im sitting right about in the middle of the room , sounds good where im at,i get a good low end , sitting in the "sweet spot" i guess haha

 

12 feet square is more closet than room. I guess you could say that your "hanging around" when you're in your studio, LOL.

LOL...From the photo it must be one really long room! It looks to be about 3ft wide, so to get to 144 (12 x 12, or 12 feet squared) it must be a 48 feet long! Or is your room oddly dimensioned and your desk is in a little alcove while the room spreads out from there? Really, I would like to know, I'm not yanking your chain, because from the photo your desk and monitors look pinned in by the walls on either side.

 

not my room, so i can't really answer. but 12 feet square is supposed to mean 12 feet by 12 feet.

 

But look at the desk and monitors, they are hemmed in by the walls. That is the great confusion and the basis of my query.

 

I think I have more shit to trip over than I do to make music right now. Not accepting guests yet.

Taking a quick look at your keys, it looks like they are split in two with the cable crossing over it. Just a visual mind-fuck kind of thing if you look at it quickly....I guess.

 

I know my area is less than optimal for mixing but its all i have to work with, my place is very small and only one room so, it is what it is. Also the way i look at it mixing as well as mastering are two completely different art forms, and both separate from producing, both of which i leave to more experienced individuals if i really like a piece i am working on (i really enjoy working with the guys at zeitgeist mastering in Berlin, reasonable and very good). i try to focus on the creation, arrangement, and of course when you play instruments you must invest time into practice, and since music is not my source of income i am limited in that precious commodity, time that is. I simply do it for the love of music and sounds. Nowadays you don't need to know how to play an instrument, for instance that Push 2 is absolutely fun to play and you can start playing it as soon as you plug it in without years of practice, almost feels like cheating......ok gear is why we're here so

Im relatively new to this forum, kinda like it here, I love music and audio and all things to do with sound and I would like to be a part of a community that are like minded, but really man....I realize that was some feeble attempt at humor, but really anal probe? guess you got me....jokes on me....haha...

 

Welcome to the forum @abcordle .. I guess that you prefere to not block your vision to whatever space that you have in your room, but to install your monitors at the proper level would most likely be beneficial to making decisions concerning tonality in any music that you create. I totally get handing off to others for mastering, but making choices based on speakers aimed at your waist are not going to probably be the best choices. I only mention this as you listed no headphones on your gear list.

 

yes Absolutey agree 100 percent, and it may look that way, while i play piano, but when working on things the way i sit (slouch) in the chair and lower it they are actually pointed right there at my earholes...i think room treatment is as important as the monitors, and i really wish i had another room, but alas, thanks for the response though...your moniker reminds me of a few, well who am i kidding the hundreds of times ive taken umm trips to various places, like back in 89 when i saw the Dead as the Warlocks at Hampton Coliseum....good times

I posted it up. It's simple but it's everything I need If you look back a few pages you can check it out. I like your set up by the way. I'd have to agree that the monitors look like they are in a odd place, and it looks as though you aren't getting a good direct sound from them, but hey, if you're not heavy in to mixing or mastering and you just want to jam that's cool!

 

I also like your earthy environment in the house. We have a similar stet up with Buddha and lots of wood tones.

Thank you sir, Behind me my back is to the bar and small galley kitchen after that,I stood in the kitchen and took it over the bar, very small place. If I had the space I would have a room treated for sure. My music is greatly varied and largely depends on the mood or whether i write on the acoustic guitar, piano, or get inspiration from some of the massive store of samples Iv'e acquired...personally I like to write on the acoustic, but when starting with Ableton or Maschine I come up with more of an ecclectic electronic....ecclectronic ....sometimes I will mix jazz with old school Rawkutz style samples, most everything but country and opera, those are just not in me.
