Shaping a Synth Bass Using Waves Plugins

 

Using those plugins (especially Ohmicide) you can make any old synth aggro.
Downsampling and reducing bit-depth always adds grit.

Straight out-of-the-box, I think Razor in Reaktor is harsh as hell. RP Raw is pretty aggressive too but I really like Razor.

 

Go-to softsynths for hard hitting waves for me are Razor, Reaktor 6 (Blocks) and Serum.

 

YES. THIS.

You don't even have to go full on Blocks. Load Razor and route your signal into various Blocks/Reaktor .isms till you get to the OUTs.
That's the beauty of Reaktor. I'm sure you could get über-oomph using two Wavefolders (Euro Reakt 4.0), one on the L, one on the R, then sending that to an EFX-Driver.ism. Add a Monark Filter and some LFOs for good luck.

I don't get it.

Send audio from Serum into Reaktor's INs add your FX with Blocks or standard .isms then route to the OUTs. There's a ReaktorFX.dll made specifically for this kind of thing. You could even use the regular Reaktor.dll in the same manner if it's own its own track.



This is the Serum audio signal going into Reaktor, passing through a Monark Filter then a Driver distortion block.
In this case I kept it simple but the possibilities are endless.



You can also enable MIDI out in Reaktor and use various sequencers to automate Serum's parameters. I do it in Ableton all the time.

You guys know you could use Razor as a vocoder like this too, right?

If you want to affect only the lower frequencies (synth's bass), Have Reaktor in it's own track with a low-pass filter VST in front of it or as the first effect directly after the INs, use Serum as the audio source, setup FX like shown above, then mix that signal back in with your original Serum audio track.
Maybe I am misunderstanding something in your request?

I like Bazille for metallic stuff. Fiddle with the fractalize and phase distortion for a few minutes and most of the work is done.

For aggressive distortions I stick mostly to Trash 2. Saturn is great, and the modulation system is insanely flexible but a little bit dense even for me.

 

There's a stereo version of the Monark filter in the Reaktor user library.
If you have the full Reaktor you can modify and restructure all these devices from the inside out.
For example, the stereo version of the filter I linked was made by going into the panel and duplicating the Process macro and the signal input and output and connecting them. It may sound a little complicated but is insanely easy:

Load the Monark filter, click EDIT then New and double-click the filter


You will see the Process macro. Hold shift to select it and the In and Out it's connected to, right-click and duplicate.


And that's it. The wires are automatically connected and you now have a stereo filter.
Right click the new Input labeled 6 and change the port to 2 and both inputs will be next to each other.

Now you know how to fish.

i recommend just the vari4ety of analog sim plugins being tape sim, console sim, tube, tape transformer , transistor sims each one doing tiny bit but stacking a bunch that works on the fine detail of the sound and you can shape it with fine tooth comb that way the atomic structire of the audio of that individual track.
