So this might look like a strange question, and probably it is.
Sometimes when playing with resonance (this happens with headphones mostly) my eyes start crying. Not much, just some tears. Is this different from person to person? Why does this happen? I'm of course talking about extreme levels of filter cutoff and resonance. It doesn't happen always though.
Feel free to ignore if it's a stupid question and there's something I'm not aware of

I'm not talking about sounds that make my ears hurt, like very high volume high frequency stuff, why you say that

Woah! You can trigger your tear canals at a specific frequency with a pure sine? That's odd af.
Be careful of your ears. You only have a pair.

Edit: Have you analyzed which frequency it is?

Maybe the music is boring and you yawn while listening it. Then it causes some tears.

No baxter, it's more random than you think. I thought this happened to everybody though, I'm pretty sure it happens to you guys as well ?
Anyway, not a pure sine. I was messing around with Monopoly, changing LFO, filter cutoff, filter envelope and resonance. Everything that quickly changes the filter, but of course it doesn't happen everytime everyday. They just start to tear, I thought it was standard administration tbh. Mind you, just a few tears, not as much as when I listen to foster's songs :disco:

Theta waves (4-8 Hz) can induce drowsiness and Delta waves (<4 Hz) deep sleep.
The inaubible frequencies are registered in the brain as the difference between two separate tones.
Some people are more sensitive to this than others.
    Just sayin'

When this happens do to you find yourself feeling tired or sad or emotional in any way?

    That's very interesting.

  11. Is she usually paid for that sort of thing or is it just something she does?

Always again I'm fascinated how music, or waves in general, affect our lives. The beautiful patterns which are produced by tones ([http://www.cymaticsource.com], [http://www.cymatics.org] For example it can be visualized through loudspeakers which are interacting with fine sand or chalk. At first it's a flat surface but when the sound wave hits the material the dance begins.). Or the relationship between mathematics and harmony. All around us everything is stuffed with waves and harmonic or chaotic frequencies. And we are in between tons of tones, surrounded by sound, it flows right through us. A self-contained system of no beginning and no end. I am glad that we have evolved the ability to hear. That reminds me of a quote by Nietzsche.
    >“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”

It's probably a kind of synaesthesia.

Kinda like when I drink a couple of glasses of red wine and listen to Joy Division's "Closer".

  16. That is so interesting that you have placed us almost outside of the entire system of sound as something other than what we are, vibrating self aware organized sound, having defined us as passive and mere observers akin to consumers of sound. "And we are in between tons of tones, surrounded by sound, it flows right through us." I have thought a bit about this and have come to the conclusion that "I Am A Sound", which is also the name of the protracted project I have been in process defining. I have always admired Nietzsche's quote that you offered, thanks for reminding me of it.

Wow man, I was skeptical and just on the mentionned spot, around the 4th minute I had goose pumps all over and after a few more seconds watching my screen, my eyes became blurried.

I had never heard that symphony before.

    Just amazing !!!

Lot more effective than the face-touching booby gal up there

  18. That word "patreon" has come up before my eyes lately. Thanks for focusing my attention on those seven letters as I have now a working understanding of this new and fascinating phenomenon. How very new century!

Thanks for the answers but I don't think it's synesthesia or anything
I also forgot to say it happens with panning as well (of course, only with headphones). When there's a quick pattern of full, hard panned sweeps, I'd say 15-20% of the time my eyes start to cry. Now you'll probably think I'm making fun or whatever, but it always happened to me (I remember when I was a kid and listening to Trippologiko, same thing happened, but not at every listening, check out 2:30 onward, the filter play)

pinkman: no, no sad or tired or anything, it feels more like an automated response, just as when you need to sneeze, watch the sun and then the sneeze comes out more easily. I didn't even know about the low-frequency waves and that brain stuff, I read something and it's very interesting

How does the start of this song make you feel? With all the panning? (with headphones on)
