I've been using a Razer Naga mouse for a couple of years but never really liked it and am considering changing.

I am looking at more premium ergo mice like the Logitech MX Master, but as stupid as it is the gold trim really narks me! :) I have also recently become getting some tendon pains so been considering a trackball too, something like one of the Kensington's. Anybody here got experience of using a trackball with a DAW or other creative production software like Photoshop etc?

    Grateful for any thoughts! Cheers!

Kensington slim blade and griffin Powermate. This one had a bigger ball than the blue one they make. Fewer buttons too but a lower profile so your hand is flatter and not arched. The ball is cueball-sized.
I have a 3 monitor setup and was cranking my wrist like crazy to navigate around the screens. Now its just finger twitches. Its a lot more precise than a mouse especially for photoshop work. A mouse is like drawing with a bar of soap. But I won't lie, it took me a few days to a week to get used to it. In the beginning, I had both the trackball and mouse hooked up for when I got frustrated. But now I love it.
The Griffin PowerMate is awesome as well. I have it setup to zoom and scroll horizontally in Ableton, as well as a scroll in my browser. Great for navigating those long documents, nfos, and webpages. I also use it as a jog wheel in Premiere and AE. On the desktop its a system volume. Its fully customizable and can send keystrokes and its application-aware. So what it does depends on what window you're working in. Super smooth action, I just spin a finger in little circles on top. Programmable functions are turn left and right, press and turn left and right. short press and long press.
For real photoshop work, I have the big 11"x8.5" bamboo pen tablet, but I only break that out when I have to do a lot of masking. I love my setup.

I used to suffer from wrist pain but after getting this, never thought of it again. just be sure to clean under the ball once in awhile if you do get it.

    Peace

What Nimbuss and subGENRE said. I switched from a mouse right hand to a track ball with my left. Took about two weeks to get used to it, but it eased the pains I was having with my right elbow.
