I actually prefer hearing a great song played on a beater vs an average song on an expensive crystal clear accoustic.
The beater gives it more character in most cases, because the guitarist has to be more skilled to pull it off.

Just sayin, don't disregard the beater, some things just sound bloody great that way!

 

And right at 1:25 when it moves to IRs it sounds like someone removed the guitar and put it through Melodyne, then played by Nexus samples. Sorry, it just doesn't cut it. Get a cheap acoustic and a condenser and it will sound INFINITELY better. Also, again - this is acoustic from pickups made sound more like acoustic with a mic. Not good at all to make electric sound like acoustic - because you can't reasonably pull that off.

 

@dragonhill .. Although the Yamaha FG-430 that I have has rosewood sides and back with a spruce top, it is by no stretch of the imagination a fine sounding instrument. The materials are inexpensive, the tuners, saddle, nut and woods used. It sounds very boxy and the sustain is not great. The intonation is so-so and although if it was the only guitar I had to play I would be grateful to have and hold it. Contrary to this one, many years ago I gave my brother who lives in Florida my old 1970's red label Japanese Yamaha FG-350. Every year or so when I visit him and his family I put on a new set of strings. It sounds...like sweet cream and Baily's poured over a fine bourbon vanilla ice cream. I payed like 50 bucks for it in 1984 and it was actually picked up and thrown as a missle weapon by some drunk asshole shortly after I bought it and destroyed one of the machines when it made contact with the edge of a redwood picnic bench tabletop. It is abused still to this day by my 3 year nephew but is indestructible. But when we do hopefully visit this summer I am bringing the 430 to swap it out with, and if he wants can learn on the 430 he can, the 350 is finally coming back home to Papa. The machines barely work any more from the high humidity, internally rusted and it needs a serious setting up by my great guitar tech here in Basel, but let me tell you, if the neck continues to stay straight, and I am incredibly surprised it has lasted over 20 years in the humid environment and the 5 years in an un-air conditioned house, baking for all those years in the long hot brutal summers, it will continue to be one of the nicest sounding guitars I have ever played, and I have played my share. For overall perfect playable fretboard/balance and quality of tone, nothing beats my Roy Noble Cedar top, and if I want a big bottom and to rip the shit out of a chord progression, my Martin D15 all mahogany kills it every time. If a song calls for twinkly highs the 1980 Ibanez Jumbo J-540 fits the bill (but boy is she loud). So yea, the FG-430 just can't hold ground in the least with the others, thank goodness to all that is wonderful, others that I am blessed to have and to play.

 

I'm not going to argue about the usefulness of an acoustic impulse.
I've tried it. It inspires me to play longer because it sounds good to me.

Yes, it sounds a bit better than DI from acoustic. But it's still miles ahead from just getting a cheap condenser. And since we're talking electric to acoustic, I say forget it and just get a cheap acoustic used or borrow one.

 

The OP has already mentioned buying instruments in his country is too expensive. You've repeated the 'buy guitar' quite often already without offering any other solution. Also, if this was for live performance a condenser would never work.
Why not try it before you base your entire opinion on a few videos?

Why don't we all experiment? I bet, with the collective knowledge here, we could come up with a decent process converting electric to acoustic.

Pete Thorn must love that 'Melodyne with samples' sound he uses it at gigs. The Taylor IR w/Schoeps can be found in the previous Line 6 link I posted.
Did you catch Pete mention Alex Lifeson uses 'Melodyne with samples' on Closer to the Heart from his Les Paul's piezo bridge?

As i mentioned before, a piezo with acoustic impulses might be a better and cheaper option compared to buying a beater and condenser.

It's official. The Taylor w/shoeps combined with Taylor w/57 in NadIR is the best my piezo has ever sounded. EQing pre IR seems more pleasing and effective to the overall tone. Post EQ was barely needed.

Definitely getting a Schaller tune-0-matic piezo bridge. The bridge itself is probably an upgrade compared what's on my Korean Hamer.

Great comparison of the free Taylor, 3sigma IR with dry piezo.

JUmp to 3:33 to hear with mag PU. I think the mids can be cut pre IR to improve the sound.

 

Did more experimenting. Everyone needs to check out the Dtar IRs from post #49. That folder, similar to 3Sigma, has IRs for piezo, Mag, and neutral.
I tried the Powerbridge IRs: the sup_jumbo with lowpass at 4k (all the way dowm on NadIR) combined with any of the three mandos. Each one adds a unique midrange.

You could always get a Roland MIDI pickup (GR-3, I believe) and one of their guitar synth boxes -- not only will that allow you to sound like a bass or an acoustic (or even a different electric), but it would also give you a ton of synth sounds and the ability to control samplers, drum machines and MIDI synths, as well as interface with a computer.

 

Iggy, post #52 is Jamorigin with no hardware and it's polyphonic for $100. I can't wait to get the new official version. The interface looks completely different now.
