Hello there. I am looking for any synths or sample libraries that would give me that Gary Numan type of sound from his later hits from the albums 'Exile', 'Splinter' or later. you know machine type noises and such. Any suggestions?

Omnisphere. Off the top of my head, I know there's one patch from Atmosphere/Omnisphere called "Apocolyptic Bass" that he used in several different tracks.

I liked Tubeway Army a lot. Glad he's still alive and hopefully still pushing the boundaries of electronic music.

there's a British company Synth Magic, they did it

    http://www.synthmagic.co.uk/polycom.html

a new version of their Polymoog

old version of this library is called ZOM ZOM, look it up

looks like they've revisited their ARP Quadra library as well, making it 11 gigs of content. great stuff.

Thanks everyone for the advice so far, however I was referring to his latter works, not the 'Cars'/'Are friends Electric?' -era stuff.
    thanks!

He's using the same sample libraries and VIs you are, except, as he said in one recent interview, he has no interest in using emulations of old gear, since he doesn't want to use the same old sounds he was using back in '81.

a few more software analogs (considering equipboard page)

Forgotten Keys FK6 Roland CR-78, Wave Alchemy Revolution also has CR-78

Waldorf PPG Wave 2, 3 plugin synths

Odyssey - G-Force Oddity, Manx Destiny 2, Binary Music Odyssey

Oberheim - Sonicprojects OP-X Pro II, Alyjames Lab OB-Xtreme, OBXD

Moog - Arturia Mini-V, G-Force Minimonsta, NI Monark, U-he Diva, Synapse Audio The Legend, Minimogue VA

you can try Irish Acts Studio expansions for D-50 - Infinity “SAM 05 – LA Synth 1”, “PRE 02 – Synthesizer LA-50″

these along with Synth Magic Polycom and Omnisphere could be your best shot at Numan's gear emulation

It was a "joke", sort of. Having two pillars of modern music should be enough for anyone. ;)

Really? wow. :D Cars and Friends are massive to me. Like all great pop they create their own reality, time and place. How amazing those synth sounds seemed in early 80s is difficult to communicate. Suddenly you didn't know what you might hear. I remember hearing Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams for the first time in a car taking a school friend to piano lessons.....wow, that sound!

Cars and Friends are in the pantheon of The Greats for me. And so simple - why can't I do that? Why!!!???

I almost purchased Omnisphere 2 this past year but opted instead for the NI Komplete 10 pkg. I know that O2 is suppose to be really good. Have to wait till I can afford it again.

I am VERY pleased with Komplete though! There is just so much in the package that I am still learning it after seven months!

I have always gravitated towards Gary's music, even though the transition from clean pop to the heavy stuff he does now. I just watched the movie "Androids in La La Land" and it is funny to me just how much we had in common. I am hoping my own music can go along similar lines, though I have had to keep it not so radical because in christian rock circles, they are slow to embrace newer musical styles.

I have also been concentrating on film scoring recently.

I feel that over the past 15 years I have done alright. But some of those sounds on "Splinter" are so polished that it drives me crazy trying to replicate them with my gear.

Thanks everyone for your input so far. I have really been inspired!
